Summary

Arale Norimaki (則巻アラレ, Norimaki Arare) is a robot built by Senbei Norimaki that looks like a little girl. She is known for her naivety, energetic personality, lack of common sense, and amazingly unbelievable strength. Among her strength, she can use abilities that range from the terrain splitting Chikyūwari (Earth Chop) to the beam-like Nchahou (N'cha Cannon). She is nearsighted and needs to wear glasses. Senbei Norimaki's mission is to convince the other citizens of Penguin Village that she is just a normal human girl. It seems to work, despite her superhuman athletic ability.

She has long, bluish-purple hair in the original manga and anime series, but has dark-brown hair in the 1997 Dr. Slump anime. Like the name of the other major characters (senbei), Arale is a pun on the name for a bite-sized rice cracker (arare), and with the family name ("Norimaki Arare") it refers to a sort of arare wrapped with nori seaweed.

Arale has been shown to be capable of making new powers whenever she feels like it or needs them. Arale has shown to be capable of replicating techniques used by other characters. This includes copying a character's fire breath, replicating another character's ability to go Super Saiyan, copying Toriyama's plot manipulation, and mimicking another character's ability to launch and shoot text. They can do this regardless of if they were drawn into existence by the creator and can regenerate outside the pages which are independent of reality.)

According to the narrator, it is described that through Arale’s sheer presence, incidents and disasters will occur with the events of them occurring being inevitable. Obotchaman who is a copy of Arale, has the ability to fly a plane from earth into the afterlife. Arale travelled from the prehistoric age to the modern age through inexplicable means. She is capable of physically moving through time. Arale is able to appear anywhere across different locations and events in time she wants by moving across manga panels into different manga frames. Arale is capable of exiting and existing outside the boundaries of her own manga, anime, & narrative. Arale can manipulate the boundaries of the animation/pages, allowing herself to move outside of it and still be able to affect everything present within it. This also allows her to enter 4th Wall space where she becomes invisible, undetectable, and non-interactable to all things existing within the plot in a similar fashion to author avatars.)

She has change events, making it so things that happened didn't occur, as well as cause what didn't happened to occur. The ideas that Arale has can change the narrative, having them become the main character, have the plot revolving around them, add and remove aspects of characters, the story becomes exactly what they want it to be, and they can freely alter the title of any story and produce the aforementioned effects. Arale is capable of altering and removing the roles that characters occupy within the plot. In doing so, everything the character would have experienced and achieved will be altered to whatever the new role is assigned to. The presence of Dr. Slump characters within any given story can alter it's plot, changing the original contents of events. Arale's ubiety within a fictional story caused the sudden appearances of characters from other stories and her presence completely changed the story. She passively changed the story of Dragon Quest V by usurping the position of the protagonist and becoming the legendary hero of the game. Who is destined to defeat the final boss, which she does by passively manipulating variables within the game's code, to ensure her victory. One of the characters affected included Akira Toriyama, their author & creator who can manipulate their actions through Plot Manipulation & is Nigh-Omniscient in the setting. The effect was so powerful that even without Arale and Gatchan being present anymore the entirety of Penguin Village was still under the effect for at least 3 Days up to 3 months straight.

• Arale had influence Senbei, who can resist Social Influencing that worked on a Nigh-Omniscient being, into committing actions that he was against at Arale's command.

• Arale's power of social influencing worked against an alien, who initially had the intent to unleash a full-scale assault across the world and conquer the planet. Through a single interaction she had made the alien her friend. They abandoned all thoughts of harming Arale and conquering the planet.

• Dr. Slump character's Plot Manipulation & resistance towards it is layered. Which means conventional Plot Manipulation won't affect them. Furthermore, a conventional resistance will be overridden by them.

• Both the Dr. Slump anime and manga are canon to each other, both sources interchangeably use Information from either side and have it connect and apply itself to the other.

• Arale's powers and abilities can modify the author avatars who have Acausality Type 4, due to being entities that naturally exist outside the framework of narrative. Being independent of its flow of events and are unbound by the plot of stories.

• Many other Toriyama stories are shown to be connected to Dr. Slump.

• Dr. Slump shares a setting with Dragon Ball. This is due to the fact that in Dragon Ball Super episode 69, Senbei pulls out the original Dr. Slump manga and refers to how the events of said manga are canon to them. Arale herself recognized Goku, thus solidifying the events of their meeting each other in Dragon Ball. Moreover, in Dragon Ball Manga Chapter 81, Senbei states that it had been a while since he had appeared in Shōnen Jump, this statement would only make sense if he was referring to the events of Dr. Slump. Which is the only time he appeared in a Shōnen Jump manga, prior to Dragon Ball. Thus proving the events of Dr. Slump are canon to Dragon Ball.
