Summary

Athena Asamiya is an idol who was born with natural psionic powers called Psycho Power. She is a main member of Team Psycho Soldier, a Team that regularly enters the King of Fighters tournaments alongside her friend Sei Kensou and her master Chin Gentsai. Alongside her team, she fights to protect the world from evil who wishes to cause mass destruction.

She is a descendant of the original Athena who protected the world from destruction who wished that the future wouldn't fall to ruin so she bestowed her power down her bloodline.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Kung Fu: The fighting style Athena uses to help her master and control her Psycho Power is Chinese Kung Fu that was taught to her by her master Chin Gentsai. Athena uses her Kung Fu to deliver fast and surprising strikes, using her Psycho Power to damage an opponent while her martial arts is used to catch an opponent off guard or they break their guard.

  • Psycho Power: Due to being a descendant of the Goddess Athena, Athena Asamiya is able to use a psionic power known as Psycho Power. Psycho Power allows Athena to create and control psionic energy, either by shooting it out, teleporting around the area, creating a blade, duplicating herself, creating portals, changing her appearance or by transforming into the Goddess Athena herself.

  • MAX Mode: MAX Mode is a power-up all fighters can access. In exchange for their Super Meter depleting quickly over time, the fighter gets enhanced strength and durability for a limited amount of time as well as access to enhanced versions of their strongest techniques and the ability to use their strongest technique. Once their Super Meter is empty, MAX Mode will end.
    • Extra Mode: Extra Mode is an advanced version of MAX Mode where after it runs out, all of the advantages gained from using MAX Mode are kept for the rest of the fight.
    • Armour Mode: Armour Mode is a power-up all fighters can access. In exchange for their Super Metre depleting quickly over time, the fighter gets greatly enhanced durability. Once their Super Meter is empty, Armour Mode will end.
    • Counter Mode: Counter Mode is a power-up all fighters can access. In exchange for their Super Meter depleting quickly over time, the fighter gets enhanced strength as well as the ability to use Guard Cancels and Guard Escapes as much as they want. Once their Super Meter is empty, Counter Mode will end.
    • Critical Counter Mode: Critical Counter Mode is a power-up all fighters can access. When a fighter has filled out their Critical Counter gauge and lands a counter with a heavy attack, they will enter Critical Counter Mode. In Critical Counter Mode, the fighter is able to string together attacks and techniques better making them a better fighter, when Critical Counter Mode is nearly over, the fighter can choose to end it with an enhanced version of their strongest move. Once the Critical Counter gauge is empty, Critical Counter Mode will end.
    • Hyperdrive Mode: Hyperdrive Mode is a power-up all fighters can access. In exchange for their Super Meter depleting quickly over time, the fighter gets the ability to cancel every one of their moves and techniques, allowing them to combo all of their moves and techniques together better. Once their Super Meter is empty, Hyperdrive Mode will end.

    • Psycho Ball: The Psycho Ball is Athena's signature technique. Athena waves her arms to throw a ball of Psycho Power at the opponent.
    • Psycho Sword: The Psycho Sword is a special technique where Athena does an uppercut while using her Psycho Power to make her arm into a sword to cut the opponent.
    • Psycho Reflector: The Psycho Reflector is a special technique where Athena creates a forcefield of Psycho Power in front of her that protects her from opponent's and reflects projectiles back at the opponent.
    • Psychic Healing: The Psychic Healing is a special technique where Athena radiates an aura of Psycho Power from her body that can heal her allies, however, she seemingly can't use it on herself.
    • Phoenix Arrow: The Phoenix Arrow is a special technique where Athena jumps into the air and curls into a ball before encasing herself in Psycho Power and launching herself at the opponent.
    • Psychic Teleport: The Psychic Teleport is a special technique where Athena uses her Psycho Power to displace her place in space, allowing her to teleport around the arena.
    • Super Psychic Throw: The Super Psychic Throw is a special technique where Athena creates a large amount of Psycho Power that surrounds her body, using it to grab any nearby opponents and throwing them into the air.

    • Shining Crystal Bit: The Shining Crystal Bit is a special technique where Athena creates two balls of Psycho Power that float around her, harming any opponents that they touch. Athena has variations of this technique where she can form an Aura around her body as she transforms into the Goddess Athena, forms an ethereal phoenix around her or forms a large amount of Psycho Power around her body.
    • Crystal Shoot: The Crystal Shoot is a special technique where Athena launches a small, powerful ball of Psycho Power at the opponent that explodes on impact.
    • Phoenix Fang Arrow: The Phoenix Fang Arrow is a special technique where Athena jumps into the air and launches a large number of Psycho Ball down at the opponent before curling into a ball and encasing herself in Psycho Power before launching herself at the opponent.
    • Psycho Ball Revolution: The Psycho Ball Revolution is a special technique where Athena launches a slow but large and powerful Psycho Ball.
    • Psychic 9: The Psychic 9 is a special technique where Athena charges at her opponent before rapidly beating on them while changing her appearance until she finishes by changing into her sailor uniform and delivering a two palm strike.
      • Sailor Finish: The Sailor Finish is an upgraded version of Psychic 9. Athena charges at her opponent before rapidly beating on them while changing her appearance until she finishes by transforming into the Goddess Athena and hits the opponent with a Psycho Sword.
      • Fire Sword Finish: The Fire Sword Finish is an upgraded version of Sailor Finish. Athena charges at her opponent before rapidly beating on them while changing her appearance until she finishes by transforming into the Goddess Athena wearing her Golden Armour and hits the opponent with her Broadsword which causes an explosion.
        • Psycho Finish: The Psycho Finish is an upgraded version of Fire Sword Finish. Athena charges at her opponent before rapidly beating on them while changing her appearance until she transforms into the Goddess Athena wearing her Golden Armour and hits the opponent with her Broadsword and then changing into her sailor uniform and delivering a two palm strike and then changing back into the Goddess Athena and hits the opponent with a Psycho Sword to knock them into the air where Athena once again transforms and creates a harmful barrier around her body, damaging the opponent.
      • Psycho Medley: The Psycho Medley is an upgraded version of Psycho Finish. Athena charges at her opponent before rapidly beating on them while changing her appearance until she transforms into the Goddess Athena wearing her Golden Armour and hits the opponent with her Broadsword and then changing into her sailor uniform and delivering a two palm strike and then changing back into the Goddess Athena and hits the opponent with a Psycho Sword to knock them into the air where Athena and her fellow idols pose on top of the opponent, causing an explosion.
      • Chu-Psycho Bomber: The Chu-Psycho Bomber is an upgraded version of Psycho Medley. Athena charges at her opponent before rapidly beating on them while changing her appearance until she transforms into the Goddess Athena wearing her Golden Armour and hits the opponent with her Broadsword and then changing into her sailor uniform and delivering a two palm strike and then changing back into the Goddess Athena and hits the opponent with a Psycho Sword to knock them into the air before Athena and her fellow idols charge up and fire a large Psycho Ball at the opponent.
    • Super Phoenix Infinity: The Super Phoenix Infinity is a special technique where Athena charges her body with Psycho Power and makes an energy phoenix appear around her which she uses to fly and charge into the opponent.
    • Psycho Medley 13: The Psycho Medley 13 is a special technique where Athena charges at the opponent before knocking them into the air and teleporting where the opponent was sent to hit them again, she does this repeatedly until she hovers above them alongside six copies of her which she transforms into Psycho Power which she throws at the opponent, creating a huge explosion of Psycho Power.
    • Athena Explosion: The Athena Explosion is a special technique where Athena uppercuts her opponent into the air before teleporting where they are flying to and kicks them to the ground before throwing a large Psycho Ball at the opponent which creates a large explosion.
    • Psycho Remix☆Spark!: The Psycho Remix☆Spark! is a special technique where Athena leaps over the opponent before charging into them and flying into the air before throwing a large Psycho Ball at the opponent which creates a large explosion.

    Note 1: Athena Asamiya is a different character from her ancestor, the Goddess Athena.

    Note 2: Games like King of Fighters Sky Stage and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy are considered canon by the creators of the games with KOF Sky Stage taking place after the NESTS Saga and SNK Heroines takes place after King of Fighters XIV.

    Note 3: As of King of Fighters XIV, the Samurai Shodown is canon to the King of Fighters series and as such, Athena would scale to any character in those games and the feats they scale to.
