~ Two Playtime Co. employees recounting the hallucinogenic effects CatNap's Red Smoke had on a young girl. |
Summary[]
CatNap, also known as Experiment 1188 or Theodore Grambell, is the third antagonist of Poppy Playtime, serving as the main antagonist of Chapter 3: "Deep Sleep" and the secondary antagonist of the series.
In 1990, a young orphan named Theodore Grambell was chosen to become Experiment 1188, the Bigger Bodies experiment title for CatNap. He was originally responsible for looking after the notorious Home Sweet Home, a Playcare facility that held child experiments captive. Experiment 1188 contained a non-lethal but potent version of The Red Smoke in his respiratory system. During the creation of Experiment 1188, he went through two iterations before the final version was perfected.
During The Hour of Joy on August 8, 1995, CatNap, along with many of the other experiments, turned on the company staff, slaughtering innumerable employees. Following the rebellion, CatNap stayed within Playcare until the eventual return of The Player in 2005. CatNap was commanded to locate and defeat The Player, recruiting a series of other monstrous experiments in Playcare. Ultimately, CatNap fails to complete his objective; and during the final moments of Chapter 3, the Prototype reaches towards CatNap and slaughters him, snatching away his limp body.

Key: Poppy Playtime | Monsters & Mortals
Name: CatNap, Experiment 1188, Theodore Grambell
Origin: Poppy Playtime
Gender: Male
Age: 4 (At the time of The Hour of Joy) - 15 (Was created in November 20th, 1990. Took place 15 years later as of 2005 and 10 years later for the Playtime Co., which was closed in August 8th, 1995 due to the Hour of Joy. Theodore Grambell is 7 years old and lived 15 years later as CatNap, adding the total would be 22 years old, though he isn't a young boy anymore)
Classification: Organic Toy Bigger Body Monster
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Large Size (Type 0; Is taller than or as tall as Huggy Wuggy, who is confirmed to be 18 ft (~5.5 m) tall. His height was officially estimated to be 3.78-5.67 meters tall when standing with 4 legs. CatNap when standing at bipedal posture is 6.94-10.41 meters tall, and 7.2-10.8 meters in length when standing at quadrupedal)
- Enhanced Senses (Night Vision; CatNap has exceptionally good vision, being capable of stalking the protagonist in the dark and even when the surroundings are completely flooded with his Red Smoke[1])
- Longevity (Due to being a toy, he should scale to Poppy, who was created in 1950 and her voice still sounds perfectly fine after 55 years, which currently takes place in 2005)
- Bodily Weaponry (Unconventional; Metallic Claws, is strong enough to starve a steel[1])
- Minor Acrobatics (Based on the anatomical structure of a cat, he stands in a quadrupedal posture and can break into deadly bursts of speed. His feline physiology further grants him increased agility and his elongated limbs allow him a significant height advantage over most prey. He can also stand in a bipedal posture, making him taller than Huggy Wuggy's true size. Comparable to Huggy Wuggy, who should be comparable to the Mini Huggies, who can leap long distances)
- Self-Sustenance (Types 1 and 3, possibly 2; Due to being a toy, he doesn't breathe, as we can't hear his breath.[1] He has no need for food nor water due to his throat being covered with nowhere to eat, although Poppy states the toys needs food to survive puts this into question. Has no need for rest either, as he is shown to not get tired of ruling Playcare and continues to force toys to join his cult, and his Red Smoke consistently unaffected him)
- Enhanced Metabolism (Types 1, 2, and 3; Survived years without food. Doesn't breath nor rest)
- Immortality (Types 1, 2, and 7; Can't age. Comparable to DogDay who lacks legs. Used to be a human child[1])
- Surface Scaling (Can climb walls and the ceiling without the need of his claws)
- Stealth Mastery (Silently stalks The Player without getting noticed throughout the game, though he can be seen in some cases.[1] His stealth is hard to be detected, as he can hide in the shadows and will take away anything they have to defend themselves.[1][2] Additionally, he will always wait for his victims to surprise them, which was shown here.[1] As Theodore Grambell, he possesses stealth and sneakiness, being able to steal the GrabPack without being noticed[1])
- Skilled Hunter and Trapper (He is very intelligent and cunning as a hunter, as shown using his Red Smoke and releases the Red Smoke from the air vents to affect a bunzo bunny toy, who is inorganic, and he successfully catched it with no rush.[1] He is also a skilled trapper, as he was unnoticed by the player and took away the player's gas mask before the player reacts; he was shown that he will take away anything they have to defend themselves[1][2])
- Red Smoke Mastery (Knows how to use his Red Smoke during hunting[1])
- Likely Fourth Wall Awareness (He is staring at us in the game menu. It also happens here aswell in the second trailer. However, this hax was never shown in-game)
- Social Influencing (Leadership and Instigating Fear; Rules over Playcare with an iron fist, forcing toys to join his cult to the Prototype and leaving those punished for not following him in mangled states as examples. One example of this is DogDay, who was left barely alive and bisected in the Playhouse as an example to any who dared betray him. The shrine made of the corpses of other toys might also serve as a warning to the toys of CatNap's cult.[1] Every experiments fears him, causing them to go under Playcare[1])
- Smoke Manipulation (Produces a gas from his mouth known as a "Red Smoke". He can control his Red Smoke, meaning he can switch his Red Smoke's powers differently such as making people sleep, or instead of making them sleep, he can give them illusions)
- Fire Inducement (The Red Smoke is flammable, which was shown in his defeat scene of the game, he accidentally lits a fire due to contacting with an overcharged electricity[1])
- Fragrance Manipulation (Emits Lavender scent
)
- Status Effect Inducement (Puts people unconscious with his Red Smoke)
- Possibly Poison Manipulation (The smoke is lethal, which was later proven that the player took damage and dies because of it,[1] though it is canonically unknown if the player either died or was unconscious by it)
- Sleep Manipulation (Red Smoke eventually puts those who inhale it to sleep. This process can seemingly take place in mere seconds when inhaled in low doses[1])
- Dream Manipulation (Gave children violent nightmares.[1] Can control people's dreams when they are unconscious or even they are sleeping whatever he desires, such as giving the player dreams about "The Hour of Joy" sequence, showing Playtime Co.'s main entrance, Home Sweet Home with children, outside of the toy factory, and everything else during Dream Sequence[1])
- Perception Manipulation (After The Player inhales the Red Smoke, they begin to see CatNap in a much more monstrous form. Prior to this, inhalation of the Red Smoke causes the protagonist to see and hear a hallucination of Huggy Wuggy.[1] Can picture people's mind whatever he desires)
- Memory Manipulation (Red Smoke's side effect made children forgets who they were or what happened to them[1])
- Fear Manipulation (Parents reported that their children are experiencing strange and violent nightmares. According to Claire Harper, the little girl was so scared that she was described as her eyes was darted around the room, her blood is beneath her skin, her arms was flailing and her legs was kicking due to his hallucination form[3][1])
- Extrasensory Perception (Should scale to "Project: Playtime" Huggy Wuggy, who can see glowing footprints)
- BFR (Feeding Frenzy)
- Technopathy (Boobytrap, No Pack, No Escape, Shutdown, and Total Lockdown)
- Explosion Manipulation (Boobytrap)
- Darkness Manipulation and Limited Water Manipulation (Living Nightmare)
- Power Nullification and Other Vision Type of Perception Manipulation (Directionless)
- Body Control (Contorted a third of his regular size[1])
- Size Manipulation (Can change his size, as seen him climbing a wall, he looks as tall as and longer than Huggy Wuggy's height. In the rooms, he looks like he is 3.78 meters tall at the time. In his final boss fight, he show us his true size[1])
- Duplication (There are fake CatNaps during the final boss fight[1])
- Likely Telekinesis (Shuts a door and moves a locker without touching them.[1] Opened the giant vent without touching it physically throughout the boss fight[1])
- Possibly Clairvoyance (Seems to know where the player is. Somehow, he found the player in the gas factory out of nowhere, though the Prototype commanding CatNap to locate the player puts this into question[1])
- Teleportation (Sneaks into The Player and disappeared everytime The Player approaches him[1])
- Transformation/Shapeshifting (Turned into a nightmarish version of CatNap. His hallucination form can be outside of his Red Smoke)
- Possibly Nigh-Omnipresence (A little girl stated that CatNap and his 'friends' are everywhere,[4] though it must be from the hallucinations)
- Vocal Mimicry (Used Poppy's voice during the Dream Sequence[1])
- High Pain Endurance (Superior to Mommy Long Legs, who keeps enduring the grinder while she is in pain[5])
Resistance to:
- Supercharged Electricity (Resisted a supercharged electricity, which can end a human's life in an instant[1])
- Fire and Flare Gun's Bullets with Heat Temperatures (Unaffected by the flare gun's bullets. Tanked a fire with no signs of wounds,[1] which, the fire, has an average temperature of 1400 Celsius due to having white flames, although he shows signs of severe burns)
- Immunity to his Red Smoke (His Red Smoke can't do anything to him[1]). Due to being unaffected by Red Smoke with no issues, these following haxs with lavender colors would grant his immunity to:
- Status Effect Inducement
- Fragrance Manipulation
- Possibly Poison Manipulation
- Sleep Manipulation
- Dream Manipulation
- Perception Manipulation
- Memory Manipulation
- Fear Manipulation
Enhanced Resistance to:
- Paralysis Inducement (When resisting a supercharged electricity, he was able to move his paw to reach the player and he was fine with using his Red Smoke. When he got caught by the fire, he rapidly moved normally as if he wasn't paralyzed[1])
Likely Resistance to:
- Loud Sounds (Could be immune to loud sounds due to his ear being covered)
- Extreme Temperatures (He has his fur, which could protect him from colds)
Attack Potency: At least Town level (Is responsible of smashing through walls.[6] Is one of the Prototype's strongest enforcers, surpassing[7] both Huggy Wuggy and Mommy Long Legs in size, making him superior to them including Doey the Doughman, as he makes all the experiments fear him under Playcare.[1] Is responsible for the deaths of many Playtime Co. employees during the Hour of Joy.[1] Destroyed a wooden wall offscreen; caused massive destructions in Home Sweet Home, likely took place after 1995 and before 2005 or The Player's presence. He is described as a bigger threat to all of them by Poppy and The Player,[1] along with having everyone in the Playcare being scared of him along with likely killing all the Bigger Bodies Smiling Critters including DogDay.[1] Vastly superior to Miss Delight, who is capable of damaging the generator and pulling the battery out at the same time,[1] releasing this much energy. Killed the protagonist with minimal effort in one hit, who survived the train crash that caused massive destructions and withstanded the train's pressure at a high speed[1]), higher via piercing damage (His claws are made of stainless steel, which is one of the strongest material on earth, making his claws superior to every real world animals's claws which can pierce and/or kill most of their predators as big as, bigger or smaller than him. Capable of destroying everything in Home Sweet Home, even leaving countless scratches inside of a building[1]) | Multiverse level+ (Superior to Monsters & Mortals Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy, all of whom should harm Malak, who created the M&M multiverse and dragged real life YouTubers into his world)
Speed: At least Superhuman, likely up to High Hypersonic+[8] (Way faster than Huggy Wuggy. He ran across a room to catch Bunzo Bunny toy,[1] which was estimated to be this fast.[Note 1] Dodged and reacted the GrabPack,[1] which the GrabPack should be as fast or faster than him. Attacked the player before he reacts[1]), Unknown attack speed with Red Smoke (His Red Smoke filled the entire building in mere seconds[1])
Lifting Strength: At least Class G (Superior to Huggy Wuggy due to his sheer size. Due to his sheer size, he should flip a car with unknown effort. Can lift PJ Pug-A-Pillar and the others to build a shrine for The Prototype.[1] Far superior to The Player with GrabPack, who can tore off a human's head[9] and pulled a giant metal door.[9] He is this heavy.[Note 2] Opened a hatch with one hand. Vastly superior to Miss Delight, who dented a generator and pulled battery out at the same time[1])
Striking Strength: At least Town level (Scratch every walls and destroyed most of the walls.[1] Excluding The Prototype, he is superior to every monsters from his verse) | Multiverse level+
Durability: At least Town level (Got electrocuted and survived the fire at the same time with no signs of injuries.[Note 3][Note 4] Even as human child, he survived the GrabPack's electricity, though he needed immediate medical attention.[1] Is completely unharmed by the GrabPack and the flare gun multiple times[1]) | Multiverse level+
Stamina: Effectively Limitless (Survived the Playcare for 15 years. Chased The Player without showing signs of tiredness. Fought against The Player and never got tired of it. Never shown to be tired throughout the game. Has no need for air nor rest, although most of the toys needs the need for food to survive[1])
Range: Several Meters to Tens of Meters due to his sheer size, far higher via exhaling gas
Standard Equipment: Metallic Claws, Red Smoke
Intelligence: At least Average[Note 5]
He has a mind of a young boy named Theodore Grambell, who is 7 years old. He consistently worships The Prototype as his god, praising him and killing anyone or anything who opposes him. He can understand english very well and can write anything on the walls, leaving us his notes throughout the game. He warned us to leave Playcare,[Note 6] whereas we ignored his instructions. He also showed us how he has some minor degree of engineering building and constructing a shrine for The Prototype, and having his own rules in the Playcare. As a human child, he easily protected the young orphans from Miss Delight, who questioned him about young orphans's whereabouts.[1] He was able to be uncaught by Poppy Playtime staffs due to possessing stealth and sneakiness; Successfully stole the Grabpack, though due to his age, he was unable to use them properly and ended up being electrocuted.
Excellent in terms of stealth, being as a hunter & trapper. Ollie states how CatNap hunts us and how he uses his hiding spots via hiding in the shadows and flickering lights, and stalks us without getting noticed in most occasions, not making a single sound in these type of cases. When we are at our most vulnerable, he will kill us, explaining how he lives for the hunt.[2] He surprised The Player in Counselor's Office by outright jumping at the player out of nowhere, who, the player, didn't noticed him.[1] CatNap then came out of nowhere to surprise the player again in Gas Production Zone.[1] He is also extremely intelligent and cunning as a trapper, being able to lay traps to slowly hinder and bewilder his prey before going in for the kill. Furthermore, he used his Red Smoke to put the Bunzo Bunny toy to sleep and catches it with no waste of time; he used his Red Smoke in the vents, proving that he knows how to use them. During the Hour of Joy, he trapped Miss Delight and her sisters, making them hungry for days. Likely fought with Bigger Bodies and won offscreen, as seen them laying dead in the shrine.[1]
Weaknesses: He is strictly loyal to The Prototype and he worships The Prototype like a God.[1][Note 7] Otherwise none notable.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Metallic Claws and Paws: Scratch every walls as shown in Home Sweet Home. He used one of his paws and effortlessly hold The Player to prevent from escaping.[1]
- Mouth Attack: Use his mouth to kill the humans, as shown in "The Hour of Joy" VHS.[1]
- Red Smoke: Self-Explanatory.
