Gennady seems to be not very intelligent unlike his son and wife, which his willingness is to go see a 'random woman' that starts flirting with him (in reality, it's Andrew sending him fake texts as a distraction).[1] However, he is smart enough to know Andrey's exact location via unknown means.[1] Much like his wife, he is abusive and never shows any signs of being nice to Andrey.[1]
Weaknesses: Is alcoholic and very abusive.[1] Can't hear his son while he's crouching.[1] He can be distracted by the following:
- Bathroom - From time to time, he will announce that he has to use the bathroom, giving the player plenty of time to quickly search the TV/Living room while he's away. Since he leaves the bathroom door open, it's advised to not go around that area during this time- also be careful going near the windows. This is also the best time to get the key from the flowerpot, as he is further away/will not hear the clatter (unless not playing in easy/normal mode). This is also a good time to check the car trunk
- Text - From time to time, his phone will go off, and he will announce when he goes to check. This is a good time to check the cabinets in the TV/Living room, but it doesn't last as long as the bathroom, and he is still within the area.
- Andrey can also trigger the text via his computer in his bedroom. But, eventually it will no longer work, so use it carefully.
- Sleeping Pills - when Gennady is out of the room, the player can slip the sleeping pills into his drink on the table. Eventually, he will fall asleep for at least a minute. This is best used to get the gate ending, since he will be unable to chase after the player (and if the player has trapped Mom in the pantry, he will be unable to help her until he wakes up).
- It's not advised to drug Gennady just to search the room, as it's a one-time use item, and could make escaping harder, depending on what ending they player is going for.
