~ Metamorpho's tearful farewell to his lover |
Summary[]
Rex Mason served in the marines alongside John Stewart, with the two forging a close friendship - however, they would lose touch when John became a cosmos-surveilling member of the Green Lantern Corps and left earth for many years. By the time the two met again, John had joined the Justice League, and the two enjoyed a (mostly) amicable reunion, only soured by a discussion about the illegal dealings of Mason's employer, Simon Stagg. After this eye-opening discussion, Mason became asking too many questions for Stagg's liking, and Stagg decided to use him as a sacrificial lamb for project Metamorpho. Unfortunately for Stagg, Mason survived the process and became a superpowered element man. After a misunderstanding which developed into an alliance between Metamorpho and the Justice League to defeat a mutated Stagg, he became a superhero and ally of the Justice League - to the point that he was initiated into the expanded League following the Thanagarian Invasion.
Powers and Stats[]
Tier: 9-B physically, at least 9-B to High 6-A to 5-B with Bodily Weaponry, at least 8-C, possibly far higher with Flame Blasts, and at least High 8-C with Chemical Explosions
Name: Rex “Mase” Mason, known as the superhero Metamorpho
Origin: The DC Animated Universe
Gender: Male
Age: Thirties to Forties, assuming he's about as old as John Stewart
Classification: Metahuman, Member of the Justice League
Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics (See Attack Potency, Speed, Lifting Strength, and Durability)
- Flight (Can fly through the air, either as gas or as sludge which can inexplicably fly)
- Regeneration (Low-High: Can reform from being splattered into goop, having his midsection blown apart by an explosive Batarang, having his head torn apart by a mace swing from Hawkgirl, etc)
- Elasticity (Possesses an elastic constitution which allows him to stretch any part of his body tremendously or become a puddle of squishy goop, either for traversal (like to fit through the holes on a manhole cover) or to absorb the impact of an attack)
- Chemistry Manipulation/Shapeshifting (As an element man, can transform any part of his body into any element on the periodic table, or combinations thereof - he can turn his body into water, a gas, acid, flame, or other compounds such as Kryptonite, Wood, Concrete, or Diamond, turn his appendages into metallic or wooden weapons, or even transform his entire body into a very specific polypeptide, as he did during the climax of "Metamorphosis")
- Natural Weaponry (Can turn parts of his body into weapons, such as an axe, a pickaxe, a sharp blade, a spiked club, a huge club, a sledgehammer, etc)
- Elemental Intangibility (Can become and move around as water and gas, which cannot be harmed in the conventional sense)
- Fire Manipulation (Can heat his hands up so much his touch melts Batarangs, and can expel beams, spheres, and omnidirectional bursts of powerful flame)
- Paralysis Inducement (Can bind foes with elasticity or bind their body with fast-acting concrete)
- Acid Manipulation (Turned his arms into geysers of potent acid while fighting Simon Stagg)
- Sleep Manipulation (Turned into knockout gas to incapacitate Green Lantern)
- Explosion Manipulation (Created a massive explosion with a chemical reaction)
- Accelerated Development (Mastered his powers in about a day upon gaining them, to the point that he could turn his entire body into a very specific polypeptide right after being told its chemical components, as seen in the climax of "Metamorphosis")
- Hand-to-Hand Combat Skills (Served in the marines alongside John Stewart)
- Limited Wind Manipulation (Caused a large gust with an explosion he created)
- Limited Acrobatics (Flipped in midair to recover from an attack that sent him flying)
- Situational Durability Negation and Statistics Reduction (Can turn parts of his body into Kryptonite, which has these effects on Kryptonians and Argoans)
- Resistance to Extreme Heat (Was designed with the express purpose of surviving in, if not thriving within, dangerous work environments such as oil rigs)
Attack Potency: Wall Level with his base physical strength (Slammed hospital doors off their hinges, sending them flying. Knocked dual truck doors off their hinges, albeit they were perforated beforehand. One-shot Java, a massive caveman), at least Wall Level (Some of his bodily weaponry is a minor enhancement or has very low-tier AP feats, such as his diamond hands only cracking pavement or his element hand punching a warehouse door apart in one blow) to at most Multi-Continental to Planet Level with bodily weaponry (Temporarily KO’d Green Lantern with a club strike even though GL erected his energy barrier around himself. Fought a dragon-form Martian Manhunter, knocking him back with a sledgehammer hand and slicing him in two with an axe hand), and at least Small Building Level with Flame Blasts (Vaporized a long but not particularly deep trench in stone. Created an explosion that blasted back cars and an ambulance), possibly far higher (It seems as if the flame somewhat affected GL through his skintight energy barrier), and at least Large Building Level with Chemical Explosions (Created this explosion - this is drastically lower than the AP of his bodily weaponry, but this can be chalked up to Rex simply not knowing how potent said explosion would be and having no reason to know the joule counts of his weapon attacks)
Speed: Relativistic combat speed and reactions (Tagged an on-guard Green Lantern with a strike, and dodged Martian Manhunter's blitz attempt, as well as tagging and staggering him with a strike at close range. Tagged Hawkgirl's wings too quickly for her to get out of the way), far slower attack speed with flame blasts (Green Lantern could handily dodge these flame blasts, even at close range and while caught off guard)
Lifting Strength: At least Class 1 (Tossed Parasite far away, throwing him into a bus hard enough to damage its exterior. Tore a steering wheel off its hinges. Lifted Simon Stagg off the ground by his neck without a hint of strain, and later tossed him away like a ragdoll)
Striking Strength: At least Wall Class physically, and Wall Class to Multi-Continent Class to Planet Class with Bodily Weaponry
Durability: Small Building Level without enhancement (Withstood being thrown into the side of a building with enough force to collapse said side. Was only annoyed by sustained submachine gun fire. Took a kick from Batman, though considering aspects of Batman's scaling (scaling to his own explosives) he was likely holding back in this instance), with elemental intangibility and regeneration making him very difficult to kill. His "feats" of surviving a push from Superman and being constricted by Martian Manhunter can be written off as them simply holding back on someone they know was GL's friend and had just been through a traumatic experience, and GL's lantern beam not doing substantial damage (only knocking him down) can similarly be written off as him holding back to only incapacitate his long-time friend. If we do not make these allowances, we come to the (obviously incorrect) conclusion that Superman, MMH, and GL's attacks pack less of a punch than a mace swing from Hawkgirl, or even more laughably, an explosive Batarang.
Stamina: At least Athletic, if not Peak Human (As can be assumed by his marine training and job as a security guard. I don't think we can definitively use him being splattered apart and recovering without strain as a stamina feat considering his biology, at this point, is too different for us to know with any certainty how much pain that even causes him anymore)
Range: Tens of Meters with Elasticity (Stretched his arm at least ten meters while getting his bearings against a mutated Simon Stagg), at least Several Meters with Projectile Attacks (Fired wooden shards several meters at Green Lantern. Fired a metal blade from his wrist across a room to hit Java), Tens of Meters with Liquid Blasts (Fired geysers of acid several dozen meters to hit Simon Stagg), and Several Meters, if not Tens of Meters with Flame Blasts (Burned a many-meter-long trench with his flame)
Standard Equipment: None Notable
- Can Create/Summon: Various chemical compounds and derivations thereof, as described above.
Intelligence: At least Average, with Intuitive Mastery of his Powers and Hand-to-Hand Combat Skills (Never implied to be smarter than the average person, but his clear mastery of his powers speaks for itself)
Standard Tactics: Generally opts to incapacitate a foe with a sledgehammer hand or by turning into knockout gas.
Weaknesses: Incapable of producing any chemical reactions when frozen.
Note: Bruce Timm has stated that the original DCAU tie-in comics are not canon, with the only tie in comics that have statements to the contrary (other than Batman: The Adventures Continue, which has so many continuity issues that it's essentially impossible to argue it's canon) being Justice League Infinity, the Batman and Harley Quinn tie in comics, and specifically the first annual of Batman Adventures. Ergo, I only consider those three comics canon.
