~ Sans to Chara in the Genocide Route |
Summary[]
sans is a supporting character and the Genocide Route's final boss in the video game; Undertale.
He is one of the guards of Snowdin Village. Lazy and frivolous with a knack for making puns and jokes, he has no interest in capturing humans, much to the chagrin of his brother, Papyrus. Despite his exceedingly laid-back attitude and status as "the easiest enemy", Sans has proven himself to be extremely observant and dangerous when pushed too far, becoming the final challenge Chara faces on the Genocide Route and the toughest opponent in the game.
Powers and Stats[]
Tier: 10-B
Name: sans the skeleton, The Judge, Smiley Trashbag (by Flowey), Comedian (by Chara), Sansy (by Drunk Bun), LAZY BONES (by Papyrus), The Easiest Enemy (by CHECK)
Origin: Undertale
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Classification: Monster, Skeleton
Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Monster Physiology
- Non-Physical Interaction (Monsters' magic is showcased to be able to actually harm Mad Dummy, who couldn't be damaged from Frisk because of their true body being incorporeal, thus immune to their attacks due to humans lacking magic on their own)
- SOUL Manipulation ( Monsters' magic attacks the SOUL, which is the essence of one's being. Some monsters can also manipulate the SOUL of their opponent though inflicting status effects, such as making it heavier or unable to walk away from a point in the area)
- SOUL Absorption, Transformation and Extrasensory Perception (Monsters can absorb the SOUL of a defeated human, transforming in an "horrible beast of unfathomable power", with their power greatly increasing the more SOULs they absorb, as a monster with 7 Human SOULs is described as being a god who can destroy the barrier. They can also feel both the emotions and hearts of the SOULs inside of them)
- Creation (Monsters' magic can create real objects which are tangible)
- Longevity (Monsters' lifespan is implied be of at least thousands of years. Examples are Gerson, who is still alive after participating in the war between humans and monsters, whose result has left the latter imprisoned in the underground for millenia, or the Dogi, who went second in the Nose-Nuzzle comptetition of the '98 against Asgore and Toriel, with said competition happening before Toriel's self-isolation in the ruins, which happened after Chara's fall in the Underground in 201X[1] and lasted[2] likely 100 years)
- Empathic Manipulation (When against Sans, the opponents passively feel guilt and regret as if their sins were literally crawling[3] and weighing on their backs[3])
- Instinctive Action (Is capable of dodging attacks while he was deep asleep[3], only getting hit when Chara broke the game's combat system[3])
- Social Influencing (Charisma - Is a professional prankster, being capable of making Asgore laugh for the entire duration of the comedy show. First day he appeared in Grillby's, he sat down and said "i'll take the usual."[4]. Just by acting like an old time customer, he often made everyone laugh so he was quickly accepted as one[4]. Drives Papyrus' crazy with his puns, is loved by almost everyone in Snowdin[5], is able to keep his job even though he sleeps all the time[6] and drives Undyne mad. Tricked Frisk in the Genocie Route, making them spare him even though at this point they were a bloodlusted genociding maniac[3] Instigating Fear - Was capable of traumatizing Flowey to the point where even the mention of anything linked to Sans leaves him angry and nervous[7])
- Clairvoyance and Enhanced Extrasensory Perception (Is capable of sensing and knowing[8] Frisk's LOVE, EXP and feelings)
- Vehicular Mastery (Can drive a bicycle one handed[9] while going faster than a racecar, is forklift certified[10])
- Information Analysis (Just by looking at Frisk's face Sans is able to know how many times he has killed them[3], how many times they killed him[3], if they spared him and got tricked[3])
- Toon Force (Similar to his brother, Sans is capable of making strange and nonsensical things happen just for the sake of a jokes)
- Air Manipulation (Has a self-sustaining tornado in his room[11])
- Fire Manipulation (His room is constantly burning, but only from the outside[11])
- Sound Manipulation (Is able to play the "ba dum tss" noise when he makes puns)
- Spatial Manipulation (Created an infinitely layered joke book that contains a quantum physic book which contains a joke book which contains a quantum physic book and so on[11])
- Space-Time Manipulation & Teleportation (As shown when he seemingly stopped time in Grillby's,[5] which matches aesthetically several instances[3] where Sans seemingly disappears. Capable of teleporting himself, others[5] and his attacks[3]. Papyrus also confirms Sans to have both space and time-related abilities from personal experience[11])
- Fourth Wall Awareness and Law Manipulation (Combat-Applicable - Is capable of manipulating the rules of Undertale[3]. Attacking from the menu and within the very idea of doing actions[3], skipping his own dialogue[3], attacking first[3]. Winks at the player and directly acknowledges them as "the anomaly"[3], being able to kick them out of the game if they cheat[12]. Can change the battle boxes size, scretching it out[3])
- Power Nullification (With his Special Attack, he is capable of indefinitely extending his turn by not taking it[3]. Ensuring that the enemy cannot attack, use equipment, talk, use abilities and interact with Sans[3])
- Intangible Projectiles, Magic, Inorganic Physiology (Type 1) and Danmaku (Monsters' bodies, compared to human ones, do not have much physical matter because of them being made of magic to the same degree humans are made of water, being able to use their magic in various ways like making bullet patterns, which are showcased in most of their fights, with them also being able to control said magic)
- Bone Manipulation (Through to use of his magic, Sans is able to control and create bone projectiles. Being able to directly make them appear from the ground[3], create peculiar patterns[3], have variety of sizes[3] and more[3])
- Durability Negation, Poison Manipulation, Invulnerability Negation, Status Effect Inducement (As the Judge, Sans is capable of fully controlling and using KARMA[3]. A type of poison effect which whittles the opponents HP down overtime[3], affecting both their souls[3] and bodies[3] while also ignoring Frisk's Invulnerability Frames[3]. Heavily implied to be capable of affecting Flowey, who lacks a SOUL[7])
- Selective Additional Intangibility (Is able to control and manipulate blue attacks[3] far better than his brother[3], which are attacks that can only be evaded if the target remains perfectly still, where even the slightest movement ensures a direct hit)
- Platform Creation (Uses many different sorts of platforms in his attacks[3])
- Telekinesis and Gravity Manipulation (Is capable of using Blue Magic to add "weight" to the SOUL[3]. Can move Chara's SOUL with a wave of his hand[3])
- Energy Projection and Summoning (Is able to summon Gaster Blasters[3] with varying sizes,[3])
- Monster Physiology
- Necromancy: (As the body of a monster is made of magic, it is attuned to their SOUL. Because of this, they do not leave a corpse at their death, instead turning[13] to dust and with their SOULs also not lasting after dying, but just disappear)
- SOUL Manipulation (As the body of the monsters is made of magic and directly linked to their SOUL, they should be able to take SOUL attacks as physical ones)
- Radiation Manipulation (The Gamerblood Energy Drink is a common product in the Underground despite it containing radioactive waste)
- Poison Manipulation (Monsters can stay indefinitely at the CORE, which is seemingly filled of ozone)
- Extreme Cold and Extreme Heat (Can survive in Hotland, which can reach temperatures high enough to vaporize a styrofoam cup and water instantly. He also lives in Snowdin with no problem, where the snow is so cold that it does not melt from Hotland's heat, with Undyne finding it significantly cold. Should also be the same as Undyne, who easily took an overheat explosion from a MTT brand oven, which can reach temperatures of 9000 °F)
- Fear Manipulation (Seemingly unaffected by Chara's presence and merely makes jokes about it,[3] which has been shown to make victim's unnaturally scared. A good example of this being Doggo who couldn't even see them or know if there was even someone there, Chara also did the same to Flowey even though Flowey considers himself emotionless[14])
Attack Potency: Human level (Stated to be the "easiest enemy" due to having 1 ATK, although he's still stronger than a Frisk with 0 ATK and Minimal Determination), Can ignore conventional durability with KARMA
Speed: FTL (Superior to Frisk and Napstablook, one of which being able to close his binds before Flowey's light can reach him and the other being capable of dodging sunlight Able to consistently tag a Chara at LV 19 during the Genocide Route. Even when Chara amplifies their speed to twice as fast by consuming Sea Teas), with higher reactions (Capable of consistently dodging Chara to such a degree that they could never land a hit on Sans, even if they reset and knew exactly what he would do and where he would be, and even if he was asleep)
Lifting Strength: Unknown, can ignore conventional lifting strenght with SOUL based Telekinesis
Striking Strength: Human level
Durability: Human level (Same as his Attack Potency due to both his ATK and DEF having the value of 1, making him more durable than a Frisk with 0 DEF and Minimal Determination)
Stamina: Average (Can repeatedly dodge attacks from Chara, but after a while, he showed various signs of tiring, such as sweating, heavier breathing, and eventually beginning to fall asleep.[3] Despite this, Sans was still able to dodge an attack after growing fully exhausted. If Chara doesn't attack him, Sans will keep using his attacks without getting tired, including teleportation and time stop)
Range: Tens of Meters with Bone Attacks, higher[Statistics Values 1] with Gaster Blasters, Kilometers[Statistics Values 2] with Teleportation
Standard Equipment: Gaster Blasters
Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius
While Sans is lazy, he has demonstrated incredible skill and proficiency in science and physics. Presumably, he reads quantum physics books in his off-time.[15] Sans is so perceptive that he can accurately deduce how many times Chara has died and tried again through time travel just by looking at their expression. He can also guess if Chara has already killed him but has reset the timeline just to fight him once more, as well as whether he dunked[Chara or not. Most notably, Sans possesses knowledge of the SAVE System, as he runs reports that show the activity of a multitude of timelines. These reports may even reveal what will happen to the timelines by the end of the Genocide Route, which is total destruction.
After defeating Flowey so many times,[7] Sans has shaken him to the point where he’s actually afraid of Sans.[7] Even though Flowey considers himself as emotionless, just hearing anything somewhat connected to Sans’ makes him tremble
Sans has a workshop located in the basement of his house, which contains blueprints with unfamiliar handwriting or symbols related to a "strange machine", presumably referring to the broken machine covered up in the same room. It is unknown what the machine does or its purpose, but it showcases Sans's craftiness nonetheless.[16] Sans also appears to share a deep friendship with Alphys, and likely knowing about the dark truth of the Amalgamates,[17] which is supported by him having the dogfood Alphys uses to feed Endogeny.[18] This may also imply that "Our Reports" is referring to Alphys,[19] which is supported by the fact that she also possesses knowledge about the other timelines.[20]
Weaknesses: Standard Monster weaknesses. He tends to be rather lazy and won't fight unless it's absolutely necessary. Whether by choice or due to an actual weakness, Sans is unable to attack during a time stop; he can only set up attacks that will start moving once time resumes.
