~ Sans to Frisk in the Genocide Route[1] |
Summary[]
sans is a supporting character and the Genocide Route's final boss in the video game; Undertale.
He is one of the guards of Snowdin Village. Lazy and frivolous with a knack for making puns and jokes, he has no interest in capturing humans, much to the chagrin of his brother, Papyrus. Despite his exceedingly laid-back attitude and status as "the easiest enemy", Sans has proven himself to be extremely observant and dangerous when pushed too far, becoming the final challenge Frisk faces on the Genocide Route and the toughest opponent in the game.
Powers and Stats[]
Tier: At most 8-B
Name: sans the skeleton, The Judge, Smiley Trashbag (by Flowey), Sansy (by Drunk Bun), LAZY BONES (by Papyrus), The Easiest Enemy[1] (by Check)
Origin: Undertale
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Classification: Monster, Skeleton
Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Monster Physiology
- Danmaku and Bone Manipulation (Most of his attacks consist of bones and Gaster Blasters that create complicated patterns.[1] Able to directly make said bones appear from the ground, walls or ceiling[1] and have variety of sizes[1])
- Energy Projection and Summoning (Is able to summon Gaster Blasters[1] of various sizes)
- Intangible Attacks; Invulnerability and Soul Invulnerability Negation (His bones pass through Frisk's body without triggering their INV Frames, which allows them to briefly pass through attacks without taking any damage for few seconds after being hit)
- Durability Negation and Status Effect Inducement (Sans' attacks inflict to the target KARMA,[1] a poison-like effect that quickly whittles the opponent's HP down overtime[1] and affecting both their souls[1] and bodies,[1] while also ignoring Frisk's INV Frames.[1] Heavily implied to be capable of affecting Flowey, who lacks a SOUL[2])
- Selective Additional Intangibility (Is able to control and manipulate blue attacks[1] far better than his brother,[1] which are attacks that can only be evaded if the target remains perfectly still)
- Platform Creation (Uses many different sorts of platforms in his attacks[1])
- Telekinesis and Gravity Manipulation (Is capable of using Blue Magic to add "weight" to the SOUL.[1] Can move Frisk's SOUL with a wave of his hand[1])
- Instinctive Reactions (Is capable of dodging attacks while he was deep asleep,[1] only getting hit when Frisk broke the game's combat system[1])
- Social Influencing (Is a professional prankster, being capable of making Asgore laugh for the entire duration of the comedy show by saying just one pun. First day he appeared in Grillby's, he sat down and said "i'll take the usual",[3] and just by acting like an old time customer, he often made everyone laugh so he was quickly accepted as one[3])
- Fourth Wall Awareness (Combat-Applicable: Winks at the Player and talks to them,[4] other than directly acknowledging them as "the anomaly",[1] and noticing if they hack the game[5] Can attack from the menu and within the very idea of doing actions.[1] With his Special Attack, he is capable of indefinitely extending his turn by not taking it.[1] Ensuring that the enemy cannot attack, use equipment, talk, use abilities and interact with Sans[1])
- Clairvoyance and Extrasensory Perception (Is capable of sensing and knowing[6] Frisk's LOVE, EXP and feelings)
- Vehicular Mastery (Can drive a bicycle one handed[7] while going faster than a racecar, is forklift certified[8])
- Multiple Languages (Knows italian word "capiche"[1])
- Information Analysis (Just by looking at Frisk's face Sans is able to know how many times he has killed them,[1] how many times they killed him,[1] if they spared him and got tricked[1])
- Cosmic Awareness and Precognition with reports (His reports showed a massive anomaly in space-time continuum that causes timelines to jump left and right and the future destruction of the world destruction caused by Chara[1][Note 1])
- Toon Force (Should be the same as his brother)
- Air Manipulation (Has a self-sustaining tornado in his room[9])
- Fire Manipulation (His room is constantly burning, but only from the outside[9])
- Sound Manipulation (Is able to play the "ba dum tss" noise when he makes puns)
- Spatial Manipulation (Created an infinitely layered joke book that contains a quantum physic book which contains a joke book which contains a quantum physic book and so on[9])
- Teleportation (Capable of teleporting himself or others[10])
- Empathic Manipulation (When against Sans, the opponents will feel guilt as if their sins were crawling on their backs[1])
- Time Stop (As shown when he seemingly stopped time in Grillby's,[10] which matches aesthetically several instances[1] where Sans seemingly disappears. Papyrus also confirms Sans to have both space and time-related abilities from personal experience[9])
- Resistance to Extreme Cold and Extreme Heat (Can survive in Hotland, which can reach temperatures high enough to vaporize a styrofoam cup and water instantly. He also lives in Snowdin with no problem, where the snow is so cold that it does not melt from Hotland's heat, with Undyne finding it significantly cold. Should also be the same as Undyne, who easily took an overheat explosion from a MTT brand oven, which can reach temperatures of 9000 °F)
- Resistance to Fear Manipulation (Seemingly unaffected by Genocide Frisk's presence and merely makes jokes about it,[1] which has been shown to make victim's unnaturally scared. A good example of this being Doggo who couldn't even see them or know if there was even someone there, Frisk also did the same to Flowey even though Flowey considers himself emotionless[11])
Attack Potency: At most City Block level[Statistics Value 1] (Stated to be the "easiest enemy" due to having 1 ATK, although he's still stronger than Frisk with 0 ATK and Minimal Determination. Had possibly blocked the attack from the heavily suppressed Omega Flowey,[12] since his bones are softer[1] like the one we see that blocked Flowey's bullets[12] compared to Papyrus' regular bones, which are all sharp edges[13], unless it is Papyrus' "absolutely normal attack"[13]. Flowey, despite holding back, was still able to damage Frisk with Great Determination,[12] so his bullets in this state should be comparable to their durability), can ignore durability with KARMA[1]
Speed: At least FTL (Able to consistently tag a Frisk at LV 19 during the Genocide Route.[1] Most of his attacks are faster than Frisk even with their speed being maxed to x2 through consuming Sea Teas[1]), with higher reactions (Capable of consistently dodging Frisk to such a degree that they could never land a hit on Sans, even if they reset and knew exactly what he would do and where he would be, and even if he was asleep.[1] Was only hit after Chara interfered[1]), even higher Attack Speed with Gaster Blasters (The Gaster Blaster's beams can cross vast distances instantly, and travel faster than Frisk or Sans can move, with the former being able to avoid these only through aim-dodging[1])
Lifting Strength: Unknown physically, at least Class 10[Statistics Value 2] with Magic (Can move hundreds of kilograms of bones at high speeds for his attacks.[1] Has a better Telekinesis than his brother, who can move and control giant bones[13])
Striking Strength: At most City Block level[Statistics Value 1]
Durability: At most City Block level[Statistics Value 1] (Equal to Attack Potency due to having both ATK and DEF at 1,[1] and still more durable than Frisk with 0 DEF and Minimal Determination, Moldsmal with 0 DEF[14] and Shyren with 0 DEF[15])
Stamina: Superhuman (Used way more magic[1] than his brother did[13] while also dodging attacks from Frisk,[1] and using magic makes monsters get exhausted[13])
Range: Tens of Meters with Bone Attacks, higher[Statistics Value 3] with Gaster Blasters, Kilometers[Statistics Value 4] with Teleportation, High Multiversal+ with reports (His reports showed a massive anomaly in space-time continuum that causes timelines to jump left and right and the future destruction of the world destruction caused by Chara[1][Note 1])
Standard Equipment: Gaster Blasters
Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius
While Sans is lazy, he has demonstrated incredible skill and proficiency in science and physics. Presumably, he reads quantum physics books in his off-time. Sans is so perceptive that he can accurately deduce how many times Frisk has died and tried again through time travel just by looking at their expression. He can also guess if Frisk has already killed him but has reset the timeline just to fight him once more, as well as whether he dunked Frisk or not. Most notably, Sans possesses knowledge of the SAVE System, as he runs reports that show the activity of a multitude of timelines. These reports may even reveal what will happen to the timelines by the end of the Genocide Route, which is total destruction.[Note 1]
After defeating Flowey so many times,[2] Sans has shaken him to the point where he’s actually afraid of Sans.[2] Even though Flowey considers himself as emotionless, just hearing anything somewhat connected to Sans makes him tremble.
Sans has a workshop located in the basement of his house, which contains blueprints with unfamiliar handwriting or symbols related to a "strange machine", presumably referring to the broken machine covered up in the same room. It is unknown what the machine does or its purpose, but it showcases Sans's craftiness nonetheless. Sans also appears to share a deep friendship with Alphys, and likely knowing about the dark truth of the Amalgamates, which is supported by him having the dogfood Alphys uses to feed Endogeny. This may also possibly imply that "our reports" is referring to Alphys, which is supported by the fact that she also possesses knowledge about the other timelines.
Standard Tactics: Contrary to popular belief, Sans does not require an opponent to be a threat to the world to fight. Although it may appear like that given his attitude towards Frisk, he actually would have killed them the moment he saw them if not for the promise he made to Toriel.[16] He starts attack with a heavy overwhelming of attacks, which he claims to be his strongest attack, although it appears that his final attack was actually his best.[1]
Weaknesses: Standard Monster weaknesses. He tends to be lazy, although this doesn't appear much a problem in the actual combat. Whether by choice or due to an actual weakness, Sans is unable to attack during a time stop; he can only set up attacks that will start moving once time resumes.[1] He seemingly cannot do anything during his special attack.[1] Although in case the opponent is capable of fighting his special attack, he can easily stop them, he won't be able to in case he falls asleep, although he will still dodge.[1]
