Summary[]
Son Goku (孫悟空 Son Gokū) is the protagonist of the Dragon Ball series.
He is a Saiyan sent to Earth as a baby by his father Bardock to escape the destruction of the planet Vegeta and the Saiyan race. Adopted by Son Gohan, he became a kind-hearted boy after he bumped his head.

Powers and Abilities:
Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Enhanced Senses (Goku could smell the scent on a rock Roshi picked up[1], his sense of smell is compared to a dog's[2]), Acrobatics, Martial Arts (Learned Kung Fu from grandpa Gohan[3], who was said to be an unrivaled master in all forms of martial arts[4]), Ki Manipulation (Was trained in ki by grandpa Gohan[5]), Energy Projection (Can use the Kamehameha, which is a technique that uses all the latent energy in one's body and shoots it as a beam[6][5][7]), Limited Light Manipulation (ki blasts like the Kamehameha are described as light-beams,[8][Note 1] This allowed Goku to beat Shura later on, who's weak to light[9]), Limited Matter Manipulation (Ki blasts are referenced as "materializing the body's internal energy outside the body"[5] and are described as chemical projectiles[5]), Aura (Ki users can increase the strength of their own attacks with ki[10]; Since there are limits to the physical body, the size of the fighters' ki and their control over it is the biggest deciding factor in the outcome of a battle[11][12]), Accelerated Development (Later in the series, Goku progressed through Karin's training at an astonishing rate[13], even completing it in 3 days[14], when it took Roshi 3 years to do the same[15]), Limited Longevity (Saiyans' natural lifespan is slightly longer than Humans[16]; Saiyan children stay young for a while and then suddenly shoot up like weeds[17], and when they're adults, they stay in their prime until their 80s[18][19][20]), Enhanced Metabolism (Type 1; Due to being a Saiyan, Goku can survive breathing in the stratosphere[21]), Reactive Power Level (Saiyans rapidly get stronger as they fight against strong opponents[22] and after recovering from near-lethal injuries[23]), Power Mimicry (Can copy, even master techniques after seeing them once[24][5][7]), Breaking the Fourth Wall (Broke the manga panel in his fight with Yamcha[4], scared the writer as an Oozaru[25]), Limited Regeneration (High-Low; If Goku's tail gets ripped off, it can grow back overtime or during a dangerous situation[19]), Transformation (If he looks at a Full Moon while having a tail, Goku can transform into an Oozaru which multiplies his battle power by 10 times[26][27][5][28][19][29][30]), Berserker Mode and Large Size (Type 1) as an Oozaru
Resistances: None notable
Abilities: Everything mentioned previously except for Transformation and all the abilities that came along with it (until he regrew his tail), Afterimage Creation (Can use the Zanzouken to create afterimages, even making up to three of them at a time[31][32][5][7]), Flight after regrowing his tail (Used his tail to fly back to the ring after being knocked away by Jackie[33][5]),
Resistances: Electricity Manipulation as an Oozaru (Broke out of Jackie's Bankoku-Bikkuri-Shou[34], which is a technique paralyzes and eventually kills the opponent with an intense electric shock[5][7])
Abilities: All previous abilities, Afterimage Creation to a far greater extent (Created up to 7 afterimages at a time against Karin[35])
Resistances: All previous resistances, Electricity Manipulation (Broke out of the Pirate Robot's high voltage electric current[5] while underwater[36]), Limited Heat Manipulation (Flew so fast on Kinto'un he seemingly caught fire[37], withstood a Jet Engine thrust from close range[38], withstood his pants being burnt off with a flamethrower[39])
Abilities: All previous abilities, Breath Attack (Can stop himself from falling mid-air with just a breath[40]), Martial Arts to a far greater degree (Master Roshi, the god of martial arts[41] who trained Grandpa Gohan[42] and is said to be the best martial artist in the world[43], admits to Goku's raw skill being greater than his[44]; Goku and Tenshinhan were equally skilled, constantly turning the tables on each other with new techniques[45])
Resistances: All previous resistances.
Abilities: All previous abilities, High-Pain Tolerance and Indomitable Will (Goku drank the Super Sacred Water, knowing that it's a great poison that would most likely kill him, and withstood its effects while yelling in immense pain for 6 hours, refusing to spit it out despite Yajirobe telling him to[46]), Extrasensory Perception (Could feel Piccolo Daimao's ki and pinpoint his location from many thousands of kilometers away[46]), Forcefield Creation (Created a ki-shield to defend against Piccolo's attack[47])
Resistances: All previous resistances, Poison (Survived drinking the Super Sacred Water, a powerful poison that instantly kills those who do not possess great strength, vitality, and mind[46])
Abilities: All previous abilities, except for Limited Regeneration (High-Low), Transformation, Berserker Mode, and Large Size (Type 1) (Goku had his tail permanently removed by Kami, no longer allowing him to transform into an Oozaru or fly by spinning his tail like a helicopter blade[48]), in addition to Flight (Goku could fly with the Bukujutsu[49], which allows him to fly by emitting ki from his body[5]), Pressure Point Strikes (Delivered a chop to King Chappa's neck, knocking him out in one attack[50]), Extrasensory Perception to a far greater degree (After completing Popo's training, Goku would likely be able to sense even movements made behind him like Popo did[51], Goku himself was also briefly seen doing this early in his training[52]; If he quiets and expands his ki, he can sense things around him even with his eyes closed[53][54]), Stealth Mastery and Limited Perception Manipulation (Training under Kami and Mr. Popo, sharpening his spirit in the process[55], Goku mastered the ability of "[crouching] as quiet as the sky and [striking] quick than lightning"[51], dampening his presence completely[51]—including scant air movements[56] and his footsteps[57]—and erasing his own Ki[5]; thus, allowing him to optimize his movements and elude the senses of opponents completely), Shockwave Generation (Can create shockwaves with his attacks[58]), Limited Instinctive Reactions (By stilling his spirit and ki, Goku could instinctively attack Popo's doll replica of him[59]), Light Manipulation (Can use the Taiyoken[60], which is an attack where the user converts Ki into light in order to blind the opponent[5])
Resistances: All previous resistances, Harsh Temperatures and Gravity Manipulation (In addition to his previous Heat resistance, Goku trained in the Room of Spirit and Time for one month[61], where temperatures can fluctuate from 50°C to -40°C and the gravity is 10 times that of Earth[62]; Was relatively unaffected by standing in the blizzard of and holding snow from Ice Mountain, which is cold enough to freeze fire from missiles and flamethrowers[63]; Could withstand a blast of fire[64]), Illusion Creation (By seeing with his mind's eye, Goku can see through illusions[65]), Limited resistance to Extrasensory Perception (As mentioned above, Goku can completely erase his presence[50])
Attack Potency: Multi-City Block level+ (Much stronger than Oolong[66], whose strength doesn't change when he transforms[67], Oolong was capable of causing earthquakes that shook Aru Village[68], 1/10th as strong as he is as an Oozaru[27][5][28][Value 1]), Town level as an Oozaru (Killed Grandpa Gohan[25][Value 2]) | Small Town level (While Goku before his training was still bound to a human level of strength and speed[69], after his training, he surpassed it entirely, casually performing feats like leaping above the clouds[30][70]; Grew tremendously stronger to the point where everywhere him and Krillin looked during the preliminaries, they were unstoppable[71]; Was implied to have gotten even stronger after regrowing his tail[72][73][Value 3]), Town level as an Oozaru (10 times stronger than himself normally[Value 4]) | Small Town level+ (Stronger than he was at the Tenkaichi Budokai[74], half as strong as he was after training[30][Value 5]) | Town level (Could beat up Tao Pai Pai with fairly little difficulty[75][76][Value 6]) | At least Town level (Far stronger than before[44][77], even while holding back to "Match-level"[78], was noted as growing nearly 20 times stronger compared to himself at the start of the series[30][79][Value 7]) | At least Town level (Thrashed Tambourine[80][Value 8]) | At least Planet level+ (Comparable to Piccolo Daimao[28][81], ultimately killing him with a punch straight through his torso[82][Value 9]) | Large Planet level (Fought against and ultimately defeated Piccolo's reincarnation[83], claimed that he had gotten "a little more than several times" stronger compared to three years ago[84], grew nearly twice as strong by training under Kami[79][Value 10])
Speed: Peak Human (Ran 100 meters in 8.5 seconds[85][Value 11]) with Supersonic Reactions and Combat Speed (Dodged multiple bullets from a revolver[86]; Could easily react to Yamcha[87], who could create shockwaves with his Rogafufuken[88][Value 12]) | Supersonic (He and Krillin could leap above the clouds[89][30][70][Value 13]) with High Hypersonic Reactions and Combat Speed (Comparable to Jackie Chun[90][91][33][Value 14]) | Supersonic[Value 15] with High Hypersonic+ Reactions and Combat Speed (Reacted to and dodged Tao's pillar[92][Value 16]) | Supersonic[Value 17] with Relativistic Reactions and Combat Speed (Moved out the way of the Battle Jacket's laser[93][Value 18]) | Supersonic[Value 19] with Relativistic, possibly FTL Reactions and Combat Speed (Far faster than before[44][94], even while holding back to "Match-level"[95]; The anime's flashback for Goku grabbing Roshi's sunglasses seems to show Ten firing the Taiyoken before Goku started moving, and Goku managed to go grab Roshi's glasses and back to his original position before putting on the glasses or being blinded[96][Value 20]) | Supersonic[Value 21] with Relativistic, possibly FTL Reactions and Combat Speed (Ran circles around Tambourine[80][Value 22]) | Supersonic+[Value 23] with Relativistic, possibly FTL Reactions and Combat Speed (Comparable to Piccolo Daimao, fought with him so fast that they were both completely invisible to Tenshinhan[97][Value 24]) | Supersonic+[Value 25] with Relativistic, possibly FTL Reactions and Combat Speed with Weighted Clothing (Ten claimed Goku's speed hadn't improved compared to before while he had weights on[98], although one could question this as Goku was likely holding back[Value 26]), FTL Reactions and Combat Speed without Weighted Clothing (Far faster than before, being able to take off Tenshinhan's belt without him noticing[98][99]; Dodged Piccolo's eye rays[57], which are beams of light[100] that aren't made from ki[5][Value 27])

Standard Equipment: The Nyoibou, Kinto'un
- Optional Equipment: The Basho Fan
Intelligence: Average in general. Genius in combat. Although he lacks knowledge when it comes to things such as math and general knowledge, Goku is a master of prodigal skill when it comes to martial arts, with years of experience fighting against many skilled opponents and training under many masters. His skill when it comes to combat and the usage of ki allows him to replicate other ki-based techniques after seeing them once. He is capable of devising new applications of his techniques on the fly, such as using Kamehameha with his feet.
Weaknesses: Initially, Goku can be weakened and put into intense pain if his tail is grabbed, though he trains his tail and overcomes this weakness during his training for the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
Ki: The fundamental energy that humans are comprised of, and the comprehensive power an individual has. Ki as a concept includes spiritual powers such as vitality, soberness, bravery, and so on.[12] It can be used in a number of ways, such as to surpass the limits of one's body to greatly increase in strength[10], and it can be fired as blasts of energy or used to create defensive barriers[5].
- Kamehameha: A ki manipulation technique thought up by Kame-sennin. It is a technique that condenses ki into one point and then fires it. The technique's force changes based on the strength of its user's ki, and if mastered it also becomes possible to control its force. Goku picked up on this technique in mere moments after witnessing Roshi destroy a battleship with it.
- Super Kamehameha: A Kamehameha powered up through his training under Kami in the Heavenly Realm. It has enough power to deflect Piccolo's powerful Makousen.
- From the Feet: A technique where he fires it from his feet like rocket propulsion, thrusting him toward his opponent. This leaves both his hands free, enabling him to unleash various attacks.
- Taiyoken (Fist of the Sun): A Tsuru-sen School technique Goku copied from Tenshinhan. Gathering ki in his upper body, he converts it to light energy and radiates it out in front of his face. Blinding the opponent’s eyes, this is used when retreating from battle. The amount of light is connected to the strength of the person’s ki, and the light source will become stronger the more ki the user has.
Martial arts: Goku is a master martial artist who has learned from many of the world's greatest teachers, from his adoptive grandfather (Son Gohan), to Master Roshi, Karin, and Kami.
- Janken (Rock-Paper-Scissors Attack): One of the few special attacks that Goku had before he acquired the Kamehameha. "Guu" [rock] is a punch, "Choki" [scissors] is an eye-poke, and "Pa" [paper] is a palm slap. Sometimes he uses them separately, but there are also times when he uses them as a combo attack. What's more, there are also times when he will feint by calling out "Guu" but doing a "Paa".
- Zanzouken (Afterimage Attack): A technique brought out by Jackie Chun at the 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai. It is a technique where he leaves an afterimage by moving rapidly, in order to throw off his opponent's attack. Like the Kamehameha, Goku was able to master this technique merely by seeing it.
- Kyouken (Mad Dog Attack): A technique where he attacks the opponent as if completely possessed by a raging dog. A kenpou technique that Goku thought up on the spot during the finals of the 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai, in order to counter Jackie Chun's Suiken.
- Saruken (Monkey Attack): A kenpou style where he moves continuously like a monkey, confusing his opponent and then attacking them. He uses scratch attacks and his tail to defeat his opponent. Goku brought this technique out during his fight with Jackie Chun.
Saiyan Physiology: The physiology of a Saiyan, an aggressive warrior race of conquerors. Saiyans have the natural ability to control ki and to fly, likely playing part in Goku's incredible talent when it comes to the usage and control of ki. In addition, while his lifespan is comparable to that of a human, Goku will remain at his peak strength for much longer. One of the most powerful abilities of a Saiyan is their ability to grow stronger and stronger through combat, allowing Goku to constantly push his own limits during a fight and rise to higher and higher peaks in power. This ability grants a substantial boost in power when Goku is badly injured, allowing him to reach a whole new level of power once he recovers.

Notes[]
- ↑ Even if ki blasts are beams of light, I wouldn't automatically assert that they're entirely made of light, and thus move at the speed of light. We've seen that ki blasts do things light wouldn't do, such as bending, exploding, colliding with each other and pushing each other back, breaking up into non-continuous blasts when deflected, even being non-continuous in the first place in instances like the Big Bang Attack (which the scan cites).
Daizenshuu 7 also calls ki blasts "Chemical projectiles", so they clearly have a material component to them as well.
