~ Jin-Woo talking to Kang Tae-Shik |
Summary[]
Sung Jin-Woo was an E-Rank Hunter and was considered to be the weakest Hunter in all of humanity. Thanks to his low rank, he often had to tiptoe the line between life and death in order to pay off his mother's hospital bills. After nearly sacrificing himself to save his party members, he becomes a "Player" to the "System" and gains an ability that is reminiscent of RPG video games. The System was not made to benefit Jin-Woo and it often forces him to fight for his life in order to reap its benefits. This was all fine with Jin-Woo however, since he would use the System for his own gain and eventually devour it.

Name: Sung Jin-Woo
Origin: Solo Leveling
Gender: Male
Age: over 46 years old by the end of the series
Classification: World's weakest E-Rank Hunter (formerly), Player (formerly), Wolf Slayer, Necromancer, Shadow Monarch, The One Who Overcame Adversity, Mage-type hunter, Demon Slayer, South Korea's 10th S-Rank hunter (formerly), National Level Hunter, World’s Strongest Hunter (formerly), Monarch of Death, Lord of Death, King of the Dead, King of Shadows, God of Death
Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Immortality (Type 1. As the new Shadow Monarch, Jin-Woo lives an eternal life and he later has to use his powers to modify his body to have an appropriate appearance. While he was a Player with the Black Heart, he had Type 4), Accelerated Development (When he was a Player, the System would manipulate his physique as he increased his Strength Stat), Statistics Amplification and Size Manipulation (Increases his speed with the Dash and Quicksilver skills. Weapons generally have an attack power increase and the Master of Shortswords ability increases Jin-Woo's strength while he's wielding shortswords. By concentrating his fists with magic energy, they bulk up and become stronger), Statistics Reduction (With Bloodlust and Bleeding), Status Effect Inducement and Fear Manipulation (He can induce Paralysis with Casaka's Poisoned Fang. Bloodlust and Dragon's Fear induce fear into the opponent. Dragon's Fear in particular is considered to be the vilest and cruelest ability of the Dragon's which puts targets weaker than him in a state of absolute despair), Enhanced Senses, Extrasensory Perception, and Time Manipulation (Can sense emotions like bloodlust. When he has the Black Heart his Perception stat amplifies his eyesight enough to grant him an entire view of a city from a skyscraper. He has a sixth sense that let's him sense magic energy and as the perfect Shadow Monarch we see that his perception range encompasses the entire planet when he uses it to search for the Beast Monarch. By concentrating, time slows down in his perception which allows him to view his enemies in slow motion. As a true Shadow Monarch, he slowed down time to the point that it initially seemed to be stopped), Dimensional Storage with the Inventory, Weapon Mastery (His mastery of daggers granted him the Advanced Dagger Arts passive ability which evolved into the Master of Shortswords), Power Absorption with Slay the Enemies, Telekinesis with Ruler's Authority, Damage Reduction (The Tenacity ability decreases damage received by 50%. Casaka's Armored Skin reduces physical damage by 20%. He has equipment that can further stack on their damage reduces effects), Invisibility (Has access to Stealth which erases traces of the user's presence which can get around security cameras, alarms, and security guards), Stealth Mastery (His usage of Stealth plus his assassin based traits like his agile movements and quiet footsteps) Aura, Afterimage Creation, Analytical Prediction (Can see the flow of attacks through things like pre-movement, the eyes, breathing, muscle twitching, and the direction of magic energy. He uses this against the Beast Monarch and Frost Monarch when he couldn't possibly see their attacks with just his eyes and he adapts to their attacks and acts on their movements faster), Sound Manipulation (Amplified his voice so it could be heard across the world), Memory Manipulation (Could show and implant memories of the erased timeline and he can make up random memories), Pocket Reality Manipulation, Creation, and Spatial Manipulation (The dungeons tied to the System Jin-Woo experiences were all created by the power of the Shadow Monarch. Jin-Woo gains the power of the Shadow Monarch so he should be able to create structures comparable to Demon's Castle. Jin-Woo can create and change things as he pleases in the world of death. Later on in the series he creates a dungeon for his son so he could get a gauge for his abilities), Portal Creation (His powers as the new Shadow Monarch let him create Gates), Non-Corporeal and Non-Physical Interaction (Rulers and Monarchs have spiritual bodies and Jin-Woo hunted down all the Monarchs after time rewinded from the usage of the Chalice of Rebirth), Necromancy and Summoning with Shadow Extraction, Teleportation with Shadow Exchange, Darkness Manipulation with Domain of the Monarch, Death Manipulation and Conceptual Manipulation (The Shadow Monarch's signature and most feared ability is its control over death. When Jin-Woo transforms into the Giant Shadow, he calls upon the power of death and turns that into an armor. The Shadow Monarch is death itself and the darkness within Jin-Woo is darkness itself and as the perfect Shadow Monarch Jin-Woo can create dungeons that lack the concepts of pain and death), Illusion Creation (Jin-Woo subconsciously created an illusion world in the world of death based on his desire to fix his mistakes when said desire was added to the power of the Shadow Monarch. Jin-Woo should be capable of replicating similar illusions now that the power is his to control), Dimensional Travel and Sealing (Jin-Woo brought Seo Gyu-Nam into the world of death to seal him in there), Fate Manipulation (Jin-Woo's descent onto the world after defeating the Monarchs made Norma Selner lose her ability to see the future since he can twist destiny as he sees fit), Self-Sustenance (Types 1 and 2. Engaged in a 27 year battle with the Monarchs in the gap between dimensions which is a world of nothing that only has eternal darkness), Regeneration (High-Low normally. Low-Godly in Giant Shadow Form. His arm regenerated from Breath of Destruction which is an attack capable of erasing all things in the universe) and Regeneration Negation (Attempts to heal Thomas Andre were useless since Jin-Woo dealt too great of damage to him with his magic power), possible Reactive Evolution (Gained a resistance to Breath of Destruction after being hit by it once and developed an immunity to Antares' usage of Dragon's Fear after it was used on him once). Resistance to Existence Erasure (Blocked Breath of Destruction in his human form), Fear Manipulation, Disease Manipulation, Statistics Reduction and Paralysis, Biological Manipulation, Pain Manipulation, and Sleep Manipulation (Kandiaru's blessing protected Jin-Woo from Karugalgan's hexes which would induce sleep, blindness, slowness, intolerable pain, and crippling fever), Poison Manipulation (Kandiaru's blessing protected Jin-Woo from the Ant King's poison), Sound Manipulation (Jin-Woo was unfazed by the Ant King's screech and the Ant King screeches suppressed lesser S-Rank Hunters), Clairvoyance (Since he has the power of the Shadow Monarch, "gazing into him" is much like looking at the abyss, making whoever does get beset by the fear of death. Selner tried using her clairvoyance ability on Jin-Woo and she was scared so badly that even looking back at the events to retell the story made her fear death), Illusion Creation (Saw through the illusion world he was in when he first entered the world of death), Memory Manipulation (The memories of the Monarchs transcend the boundaries of time)
Attack Potency: Human level (He's slightly stronger than most humans) | Large Building level (Killed a bunch of centipedes that are almost as tall as five story buildings. He pushed back Igris with enough force to shake the throne room they were fighting in) | At least Town level (Is considered one of the strongest S-Rank Hunters before he completes Demon Castle and during his last venture in Demon Castle, he stated that he'd be on the level of Goh Gun-Hui and Cha Hae-In. He doesn't find the likes of Choi Jong-In very impressive and states that Hae-In is several times stronger than Jong-In. Jong-In is stated capable of destroying a building at his full power but due to the fact that his offensive specialty is fire-based magic his attack potency should be around this level) | At least Town level (Grew stronger and easily defeated the Ant King who's comparable to the Demon King Baran. The previous key struggled to fight against Baran even with help from his shadows. He grew even stronger and defeated the Architect of the System who's stronger than all the enemies Jin-Woo had faced previously), likely City level (The Ant King one shot Goto Ryuji who's strong enough to be considered a National Level Hunter and was also seen as the only Hunter in Asia who can stand on equal footing with Liu Zhigeng, another National Level Hunter. National Level Hunters have power rivaling nuclear weapons) | City Level (Jin-Woo gets stronger from magic energy granted to him from the Black Heart. He levels up a bit more as he takes down the Giants that invaded Japan. Later on, Jin-Woo went all out and fought Thomas Andre, a National Level Hunter who's considered to be the strongest Hunter in the world), higher with concentrated attacks (Jin-Woo's concentrated attacks allowed him to pummel Thomas Andre while his slashes with the Demon King's Shortswords were ineffective) | At least Planet level (Overpowered and harmed the Frost Monarch. Based off this encounter, the Frost Monarch was viewed as equal to Jin-Woo and was sure of subjugating him when he recruited the help of the Beast Monarch and the Plagues Monarch. In anticipation of fighting the Monarchs, Jin-Woo trained and was also gifted a pair of shortswords named Kamish's Wrath which is the most powerful weapon he's wielded thus far. Jin-Woo went on to fight the three previously mentioned Monarchs in a 3-on-1 fight. He fought evenly with the Frost Monarch and Beast Monarch at the same time and eventually overpowered them before he killed the Plagues Monarch. Planets need to be fortified with magic energy so they don't get destroyed in battles between the Monarchs and the Rulers. The Monarchs and Rulers should be relative since they've engaged in an endless war that had no conclusion in sight until the Ruler's betrayed their creator, the Absolute Being, who had the two groups engage in continuous battles over and over for its own amusement), likely Low Multiverse level (The Absolute Being is implied to have created everything in the verse as it was around when only light and darkness existed and its manipulation of these forces spawned things like the dimension the Rulers and Monarchs were born in, the main universe, the gap between dimensions, the other unseen dimensions, and the world of death which is infinite in size), higher with concentrated attacks | At least Planet level, likely Low Multiverse level (Ashborn gives Jin-Woo the rest of his power, turning Jin-Woo into the new Shadow Monarch. As the new Shadow Monarch, Jin-Woo easily kills the Beast Monarch and the Frost Monarch), higher with concentrated attacks, even higher with Giant Shadow form (After creating an armor using the power of death, Jin-Woo takes on the transformed Antares who's stated to be the strongest Monarch. In fact, it should be noted that other Monarchs feared taking on the full power of Shadow Monarch without the aid of Antares. After the time rewind, Jin-Woo spent 27 years in Chaos World defeating all the Monarchs one by one, including Antares and mastering his abilities as the Shadow Monarch while he conquered them) | At least Planet level, likely Low Multiverse level, higher with concentrated attacks, even higher with Giant Shadow form (Mastered the power of the Shadow Monarch. Jin-Woo defeats the group of Titans that invaded earth who are comparable to the Monarchs)
Speed: Normal Human | At least Supersonic (Threw a sword at the speed of sound and got faster later on in the arc), likely FTL (Blitzed Joh Gyu-Hwan who's a C-Rank Mage Hunter who attacks with light. He then grew even faster and matched the speed of Kang Tae-Shik, a B-Rank Assassin Hunter, who blitzed Song Chi-Yul who's also a C-Rank Mage, In that fight Tae-Shik explained that mages like Chi-Yul can't even keep up with his movements. During his Class Change Quest, he evaded a light attack from a mage whilst he was distracted. At this point he should be faster than regular humans in the series so he'd be faster than Hyun Ki-Cheol who had a faster than light change in his attitude). Higher with Sprint (Sprint is a skill that increases speed by 30% and Jin-Woo used this skill in an attempt to break the stalemate in his fight against Tae-Shik). | At least Massively FTL+ (His "Strength" stat encompasses his physical strength, movement speed, and durability and his stats grow at an exponential rate. To get a grasp as to how much faster he should be, Jin-Woo's Strength stat is at a value of 72 after defeating Kang Tae-Shik and during second venture inside Demon Castle his Strength stat reached 186 and increased bit more as he leveled up. For Jin-Woo to go from barely above the speeds of a regular human to being faster than light he'd have to grow over 24,982,704x faster so Jin-Woo in this key should be at least millions of times faster than light), higher with Sprint | At least Massively FTL+ (Exponentially faster than before), higher with Quicksilver | At least Massively FTL+ (Exponentially faster than before), higher with Quicksilver | Inaccessible (Scales to the Beast Monarch, Plagues Monarch, and Frost Monarch. The Monarch scale to the Rulers and the Rulers killed the Absolute Being. The Absolute Being existed when only light and darkness existed which implies that time did not exist before he created everything), higher with Quicksilver | Inaccessible, higher with Quicksilver | Inaccessible, higher with Quicksilver
Lifting Strength: Above average human | Class K (Stronger than centipedes the size of five story buildings) | Class T (Pushed away Vulcan who's the size of a mountain) | At least Class T | At least Class T | At least Class T | At least Class T | At least Class T
Striking Strength: Human Class | Large Building Class | At least Town Class | At least Town Class, likely City Class | City Class, higher with concentrated attacks | At least Planet Class, likely Low Multiversal, higher with concentrated attacks | At least Planet Class, likely Low Multiversal, higher with concentrated attacks, even higher with Giant Shadow form | At least Planet Class, likely Low Multiversal, higher with concentrated attacks, even higher with Giant Shadow form
Durability: Normal Human | Large Building level | At least Town level | At least Town level, likely City level | City Level | At least Planet level, likely Low Multiverse level | At least Planet level, likely Low Multiverse level, higher with Giant Shadow form | At least Planet level, likely Low Multiverse level, higher with Giant Shadow form
Stamina: Due to the System, his stamina works differently as its measured in percentages.
0-69%: No negative effects.
70-89%: His speed halved and starts breathing heavily.
90-100%: Breathing and movement becomes exponentially more difficult.
In his second key he can reach 90% in a few minutes, while spamming all of his, he can push himself despite this though as leveling up and his daily quest rewards lets him recover his stamina completely. His third key can hunt for days on end in a place so hot that most of the oxygen in the air burned away, In the fourth key, he should have better stamina due to him leveling up a little bit more. In the fifth key he would have over ten times as much due to the effects of the Black Heart. By the end of the story, he fought all of the Monarchs without rest for 27 years.
Range: Standard melee range, extended melee range with weapons and aura attacks. Dominator's Touch allows him to cover several meters. By the end of the series his Shadow Summoning ability cover hundreds if not thousands of meters as his whole army of ten million shadows can cover a whole country. His great perception allows him to sense things across the world. He has varying range with Shadow Exchange as he can swap locations with shadows across the world and even those in other dimensions. He'd likely have complete control over the entirety of the world of death which is infinite in size and he can also bring people into it. He can create Gates but he chooses not to as they're slower than just using Shadow Exchange. He can also call upon the power of death whether he's on Earth or in the gap between dimensions which is basically a realm of nonexistence.
Standard Equipment: The Inventory lets him store weapons he wielded previously so he only loses weapons if they break and/or he loses them via other means in battle. Here's a list of the equipment he uses throughout the series but I'll highlight some notable ones here.
- Casaka's Poisoned Fang: A dagger that grants +25 attack power. It inflicts the "Paralysis" and "Bleeding" effects upon successful attacks. Paralysis immobilizes the target and Bleeding reduces the opponent's health by 1% per second. Jin-Woo eventually drops this weapon since the stronger enemies he faced had resistance to both Bleeding and Paralysis
- Knight Killer: A dagger that grants +75 attack power. It deals 25% more damage against armored enemies
- Baruka's Dagger: A dagger that grants +110 attack power and +10 Agility.
- Demon King's Shortswords: Shortswords which both individually grant a +220 attack power bonus. When wielded together they have a set bonus "Two in One" which has the attack bonus increase by the user's strength stat.
- Kamish's Wrath: Shortswords built out of the most powerful fang of Kamish. These grant a +1,500 attack power increase and a special effect that increases the user's destructive power with aura attacks.
Intelligence: Combat Genius. After being outplayed by Antares, Jin-Woo crafted a scheme that rendered the Army of Destruction useless and secretly worked with the Rulers who would kill Antares after Jin-Woo weakened him in their battle. During the 27 years he spent within Chaos World, he mastered his abilities as the Shadow Monarch and after the time skip he uses his abilities to become the ultimate detective. With his great perception he constantly adapts to his opponents' movements and he can see through unpredictable fighting styles. He's mastered proficiency in his usage of the Shadow Army and thus he can abuse their properties in a war.
Weaknesses: Keys prior to Black Heart can be forced into Emergency Quests that force Jin-Woo to kill his opponent if the opponent shows high killing intent. Health potions have no effect if his health is below 10%. Prior to becoming the Perfect Shadow Monarch, his abilities are bound to the limitations of the System. For example, Shadow Exchange has a cooldown that is nonexistent after Jin-Woo becomes the new Shadow Monarch. His connection to Soldiers can be disrupted and thus make it harder for him to make use of his mental link with them.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Inventory: A subspace storage capable of holding items that he obtains. He can teleport items he acquires inside it and he can summon items from the subspace with a thought.
- Item equipment: Can equip an item without actually wearing it, gaining all the effects it would have without the object shown visually.
- Shop: A shop where he can sell items obtained from defeated enemies for gold, and buy a multitude of items like potions, weapons, and armor. Items obtained this way cannot be given to other people but Jin-Woo can use potions on other people by pouring the liquid into the receiver's mouth. After Jin-Woo masters the power of the Shadow Monarch, Jin-Woo can just create the items he'd find in the store.
- Auto-Translator: Translates the language of monsters so he can understand it and speak it.
- Levels: After killing enemies, he gains experience points as long as the enemy was not too weak in comparison to him. With enough experience, he gains a level. A level increases all of his stats by 1, as well as giving him 5 points to distribute as he wishes. Leveling up also restores Jin-Woo's health and stamina.
- Stats: Numbers that represent his proficiency in the given attributes.
- Strength: Represents his physical strength (including lifting strength), speed, and durability.
- Agility: Represents his perception of time and reaction speed, allowing them to see enemies on his level in slow-motion.
- Endurance: Represents his health, resistance to status effects, and stamina.
- Perception: Represents the 5 senses. This is amplified to the point that he can hear others’ heartbeat from meters away, see in the dark very clearly with very minimal lighting. This stat also encompasses his sixth sense that allows one to detect others' life energy, mana, and emotions like bloodlust.
- Intelligence: Represents the total mana and regeneration of it. The higher his intelligence the more effective his magic-dependent abilities.
- Quests: Under certain circumstances, he gains a quest detailing objectives to achieve. If achieved, he can gain rewards. Certain quests entail a penalty if Jin-Woo fails to complete them. Some recurring quests:
- Road to Power: His daily quest, he has to do 100 push-ups, sit-ups, squats and run 10 miles within the day the quest is given. The rewards are a random item box (Usually contains random junk that isn't useful in combat), a status recovery (Can be used whenever he pleases) and 3 stat points. If Jin-Woo fails to complete the daily quest he will get transported into the pocket dimension with giant centipedes that he must evade for 4 hours.
- Slay the Enemies: Before Jin-Woo acquired the Black Heart, he would usually be forced to engage in a quest that necessitates that he kills his opponent if they show high enough bloodlust. If the opponent has a special ability, killing them lets Jin-Woo acquire a runestone that he can absorb which teaches him the ability.
Titles: Titles obtained through noteworthy actions or feats. Only one can be equipped at a time.
- Player: This is not an actual title that is turned on or off but it represents his connection to the System. The relevant distinction between a Player and a regular human is that he's considered a Player first, then a human so he'll be unaffected by abilities that are specifically targeted to work on humans.
- Wolf Slayer: All stats are increased by 40% while fighting beast-type monsters.
- The One Who Triumphed Over Adversity: Stats will increase proportionally to missing health, resulting in a 1% stat increase for every 1% HP missing.
- Demon Slayer: A title granted to Jin-Woo after he defeated the Demon King Baran. This title grants Jin-Woo the Black Heart which gives him 100,000 MP
Skills
- Evolution (Passive Skill): If Jin-Woo dies as a Player while he has the Black Heart, he is given the ability to reincarnate as the true Shadow Monarch.
- Tenacity (Passive Skill): When Jin-Woo's HP is below 30%, all damage he receives is reduced by 50%.
- The blessings from the Grand Sorcerer, Kandiaru: Grants the continuous effect "Longevity" which makes Jin-Woo immune to all types of diseases, poisonous substances, as well as all forms of status debuffs. During his sleep, his recovery rate will increase exponentially.
- Casaka's Armored Skin (Passive Skill): Reduces physical damage by 20%.
- Master of Shortswords (Passive Skill): Increased damage output with shortswords and daggers by over 33%.
- Quicksilver (Active Skill): Increases speed by over 40%. Mana Cost: 5 (+1/minute).
- Bloodlust (Active Skill): Targets are inflicted with "fear" status effect, reducing their stats by 50% for one minute. This ability costs 100 mana. Note that since stats are exponential, the reduction should be far greater than a linear 50% decrease.
- Stealth (Active Skill): This ability hides all traces of the user. Mana Cost: 200 MP (+20/second).
- Violent Slash (Active Skill): Jin-Woo launches dozens of slashes that tear apart at the opponent's vital points.
- Ruler's Authority (Active Skill): Acts as a sort of telekinetic ability where Jin-Woo moves mana in the surrounding area to push/pull objects. By the end of the series he has enough proficiency with this ability to "fly".
- Dagger Rush (Active Skill): Amplifies the strength and accuracy in his dagger throws.
Class Skills: Skills he gains through the power of the Shadow Monarch.
- Shadow Extraction: By calling out the command "arise" he extracts a fallen enemy's shadow, creating a copy of them. The success rate depends on the power of the one being "resurrected" compared to the user, the amount of time that passed since its death, also the level of concentration the user has at the time. Shadow Extraction can only be attempted three times before the shadow is permanently lost. While not directly stated, those limitations should not exist when Jin-Woo is no longer bound to the System. Before Jin-Woo became the perfect Shadow Monarch, the extracted Shadows would be weaker than their alive counterparts. After becoming the new Shadow Monarch, extracted Shadows become more powerful than they were when they were alive. Jin-Woo can make at least 100 in his third key and at least 340 in his fourth. The fifth key has nearly 1,000 soldiers. As the perfect Shadow Monarch, he has access to more than 130,000 shadow soldiers and by the end of the series, he has access to over 10 million shadow soldiers.
- Shadow Storage: Can store shadows in his or someone else's actual shadow which allows him to summon numerous different creatures. Killing the shadows will merely incapacitate them. He can use a maximum of 100 in his third key and 340 shadows in his fourth key.
- Knights: Sentient armors that don't really have any special abilities aside from their .
- Wizards: Three wizards that specialize in fire magic. Together they can fuse the knights into a giant golem.
- Igris: A knight he faced to help acquire the Shadow Monarch class. He has a reputation as the Knight of Death and he has telekinetic abilities and great skill.
- Iron: Formerly Kim Cheol, an ex A-Rank hunter. He's a tank-class fighter capable of tanking attacks on it's level without any damage.
- Tank: A giant ice bear that used to lead an ice bear pack when it was alive.
- High Orcs: Giant ogres who act very similar to cavemen. Their lack of intellect is made up for in their power.
- Kaisel: A wyvern he rides on. It used to be ridden by the Demon King Baran when it was alive.
- Tusk: A high orc shaman, he leads the orcs with his powerful blessings and curses into battle.
- Ants: Giant winged ants that have mutated for the purpose of killing humanity. They are quite strong, but their great numbers are the main problem when it comes to facing them. Their numbers measure over 300.
- Beru: A living weapon created by the Ant Queen, it is a mutated ant capable of absorbing powers, memories and other knowledge from others by eating their heads. It has multiple different abilities including access to some of the most deadly poison and some of the best healing abilities.
- Giants: 29 humanoid giants that can annihilate most S-Rank Hunters.
- Greed: Formerly Hwang Dong-Su. He was formerly an S-Rank hunter and he has sensory abilities comparable to Sung and can enhance his attacks by using magic.
- Bellion: One of the original Shadow Soldiers of the former Shadow Monarch. He was born from the fruit of the World Tree and is the strongest Shadow Soldier.
- Ashborn Soldiers: Jin-Woo inherited over 100,000 Shadow Soldiers from Ashborn.
- The Army of Destruction: Jin-Woo got over 10 million Shadow Soldiers from hunting down all the Monarchs at the end of the series.
- Domain of the Monarch: Jin-Woo spreads his shadow to encompass dozens of square meters. All Shadows within it will gain a 50% increase in all stats.
- Shadow Exchange: Jin-Woo swaps places with a summoned shadow by creating a Gate that bridges the two locations. At level one it has a cooldown of three hours, at level two it has a cooldown of two hours, and after becoming the new Shadow Monarch it no longer has a cooldown.
Key: Beginning of the Series | Reawakened Arc | Shadow Monarch Class | Jeju Island Arc | Black Heart | Monarch War | Perfect Shadow Monarch | Post-Time Skip
Note: Jin-Woo in the last key does not have access to Greed and Iron since the Chalice of Rebirth erased all the Shadow Soldiers that were originally human.
