Character Stats and Profiles Wiki

In the past, we have encouraged users to create new pages for powers and abilities they thought the wiki lacked. However, as of now, we want new pages to be approved by the staff, meaning that new powers and abilities pages must be suggested. This can be done in our official Discord server in the suggestion channel, or messaged to a staff member. Of course, users can always create blogs about powers and abilities to include in their profiles if they don't want to attempt creating official pages. Linking to other wikis' powers and abilities pages is also permitted.

Sorry about the intrusion, sir, but at least you were ransacked by a man of impeccable taste.
~ The Penguin

Summary[]

Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot was born to a very wealthy family, but his short, stocky body and large, birdlike nose made him an outcast within both high society and his own family. Due to this ostracization, Cobblepot (nicknamed "The Penguin") grew up to be a deeply jaded and immoral person, eventually becoming a prolific gang boss within Gotham's underworld, clashing with Batman many times and being primarily known for his large collection of strange, often weaponized umbrellas. Years later, though, Penguin would grow tired of constantly being caught by the police and Batman, and decide to, on paper, "go straight," opening up the Iceberg Lounge and becoming a "legitimate businessman." However, Penguin never truly stopped being a criminal, and would clash with Batman (who never believed his farce of having gone straight) and his allies many times more.

Powers and Stats[]

Tier: 9-C physically, 9-A with Weaponry

Name: Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, known as The Penguin

Origin: The DC Animated Universe

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown, most likely 40s - 50s

Classification: Human

Powers and Abilities:

With his body and weaponized umbrellas, Penguin can use the following:

With Optional Equipment, he can use:

Attack Potency: Street Level physically (Tore a license plate in two. Possibly helped kick a door off its hinges), Small Building Level with Weaponry and his Cassowary (Implied to be capable of harming Batman with his buzzsaw umbrella and blade umbrella - same with his gun umbrella. His energy projection umbrella did serious damage to the Batwing. His cassowary's talons could harm Batman. The missiles from his missile umbrella could blast away and seemingly harm his henchwomen, who could kick Batwoman through a stone wall. Though not certain, it's possible one of his umbrellas created this crater in a wall), can ignore durability with nerve gas and knockout gas

Speed: At least Average Human combat speed (Never demonstrated to be particularly fast, and his only battles with Batman are when he is weakened, either by being hit with nerve gas or blinded), possibly far higher (Seemingly dodges a lunge from a blind Batman, though it's possible he simply missed), with Subsonic attack speed with his Missile Umbrella (Likely comparable to the muzzle velocity of Rocket Launchers, which generally is at least 300 m/s), and at least Supersonic attack speed with Gun/Machine Gun Umbrella (Likely at least comparable to the muzzle velocity of a Colt Python, which ranges between 380 and 440 m/s)

Lifting Strength: Peak Human (Ripped a license plate in half)

Striking Strength: Street Class

Durability: At least Wall Level, possibly higher (Was essentially unhurt by being right next to this explosion. Only winded by having a chandelier fall on him. Stayed conscious after a swing kick from Robin, though it's possible Robin was holding back - this is further evidenced by the fact that a nerve gas-weakened Batman (who Robin is physically comparable to, as explained here) knocked him out with a single kick)

Stamina: Likely Average Human

Range: Extended Melee Range with his blade umbrella, at least Several Meters with his Energy Projection Umbrella (Its beams stretched across a part of a room), and Hundreds of Meters with his Gun Umbrella and Tommy Gun (The average tommy gun had an effective range of 164 yards, or about 150 meters) as well as with his Missile Umbrella (Should have a comparable effective range to that of a normal rocket launcher - that being about 200 meters)

Standard Equipment: He can generally be assumed to have at least one of the Umbrellas listed under optional equipment on him at any given time, but exactly which one it is varies.

  • Optional Equipment: Note - any of his umbrellas can be assumed to be rigged to double as a sword.
  • Gun Umbrella: An umbrella rigged to double as a machine gun.
  • Rocket Umbrella: An umbrella rigged to fire heat-seeking missiles.
  • Blaster Umbrella: An umbrella rigged to fire white beams of energy.
  • Acid Umbrella: An umbrella rigged to fire potent acid.
  • Electric Umbrella: An umbrella rigged to fire a potent electric charge.
  • Gas Umbrella: Many of his umbrellas are rigged to emit a gas that incapacitates foes, whether it be nerve gas or simply knockout gas.
  • Helicopter Umbrella: An umbrella rigged to allow him flight via spinning blades.
  • "Almost Got 'Im" Umbrella: An umbrella named so because of the episode it appears in. This umbrella seems to have two abilities: the ability to fire potent flame to burn through locks, and the ability to fire a gas that attracted hummingbirds with poison-tipped beaks.
  • Tommy Gun: Self-explanatory.

Intelligence: At least Above Average, likely Gifted (Ran much of Gotham's underworld between The New Batman Adventures and Mystery of the Batwoman, all the while managing to stay out of legal trouble. Referred to as a "master criminal")

Standard Tactics: Varies. Sometimes goes directly for the kill, and other times tries to add a certain air of theatricality to his kills. Generally does not attempt a direct physical fight, instead using projectile attacks from a distance such as his gun and missile umbrellas.

Weaknesses: Normal Human Weaknesses.

Note: Bruce Timm has stated that the original DCAU tie-in comics are not canon, with the only tie in comics that have statements to the contrary (other than Batman: The Adventures Continue, which has so many continuity issues that it's essentially impossible to argue it's canon) being Justice League Infinity, the Batman and Harley Quinn tie in comics, and specifically the first annual of Batman Adventures. Ergo, I only consider those three comics canon.
