“ | You can't kill what is already dead | „ |
~ A popular saying when it comes to undead creatures |
Summary[]
Undead Physiology is the simple ability to be dead but still alive at the same time, whether that would be as a ghost, a zombie, a mummy, a wendigo, a vampire or some other kind of undead entity.
General Abilities[]
Abilities shared between all forms of undead.
- Immortality (Type 7): Self-Explanatory
- Self-Sustenance: Undead entities through out fiction typically don't show the need for basic needs every living organism needs, that being food, water and sleep.
- Pain Suppression: Undead entities through out fiction typically show that they don't feel pain unlike living beings.
- Limitless Stamina: Undead beings, moreso with ghosts, across fiction normally don't show signs of fatigue or the need to rest.
- Resistance to Death Manipulation: Due to already being dead. It would be like using Resurrection on something that is already alive.
- Resistance to Mind Manipulation: Some forms of undead can be considered "mindless". Making attacks that attack the mind pointless along with many other abilities that go after the mind like Madness Manipulation, Emotional Manipulation and Willpower Manipulation.
- Resistance to biological attacks: Some forms of undead typically have a irregular biology. Like lacking the need for bones, organs, immune systems an other things that living beings need. And in some cases things such as poison, radiation or any other form of contaminant can be ineffective against undead monsters.
- Resistance to Life Manipulation: Due to not being truly "alive".
Types[]
1: Physical. Characters that are physical forms of undead. I.E. zombies, mummies, living skeletons, etc.
Notable Applications:
- Immortality (Type 2): Normally already undead beings of this nature can survive attacks that would kill a regular living being. Like being shot in the head, the destruction of internal organs and being chopped in half.
- Corruption (Type 2): In some popular works of fiction undead beings, particularly zombies, can turn others into living creatures through varying means/ Whether that would be through biting, scratching or some other physical means. This is also typically paired up with some sort of disease.
- Enhanced Bite and/or Natural Weaponry: Zombies in particular normally use their teeth and nails to cut through flesh and turn others into the undead.
Examples: Captain Long Ben One-Leg (Goosebumps), Zombies (Yakuza), Nathan Grantham (Creepshow), Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th)
Type 2: Non-Physical. Characters that are non-physical forms of undead. I.E. spirits, ghosts and some forms of wendigo.
Notable Applications:
- Non-Corporeal: Ghosts and spirits are immaterial beings and lack any physical matter.
- Intangibility: Phasing through physical matter is a popular trope for entities like ghosts.
- Invisibility: Throughout fiction ghosts can't be seen by the living or are completely invisible.
- Longevity or Immortality (Type 1): Ghosts either don't age entirely or age slower then the average person.
- Non-Physical Interaction: Throughout multiple fictional verses, ghosts can interact with each other.
- Possession: It is a popular trope with things like wendigos and spirits to possess inanimate objects or other beings as a host.
- Resistance to Matter Manipulation: Are astral and metaphysical beings that don't consist of matter.
Examples: Ghost (The Legend of Zelda / Game & Watch), The Snatcher (Goosebumps), Ghosts from The Haunting series (Trevor Henderson Mythos)
Limitations[]
- Type 2 entities can likely still be effected by attacks that effect the soul unless if said otherwise.
- Can likely be negated through Resurrection.
- Despite being undead, they can still be killed. Albeit through differing means.
- Can likely be vulnerable to Necromancy.
Note: This only go over common abilities that all undead across fiction may share.
