Character Stats and Profiles Wiki

In the past, we have encouraged users to create new pages for powers and abilities they thought the wiki lacked. However, as of now, we want new pages to be approved by the staff, meaning that new powers and abilities pages must be suggested. This can be done in our official Discord server in the suggestion channel, or messaged to a staff member. Of course, users can always create blogs about powers and abilities to include in their profiles if they don't want to attempt creating official pages. Linking to other wikis' powers and abilities pages is also permitted.

Introduction[]

This blog will go over and calculate all the Relativistic to Light-Speed feats in OG Dragon Ball.

Light-based Attacks[]

We have a few attacks in Dragon Ball which are stated to be light-based, and therefore would move at light-speed. The ones in OG Dragon Ball are:

The Speed of Light in a vacuum is 299,792,458 m/s, but in air it's about 90 km/s slower, giving us 299,702,458 m/s. So each of these attacks would be moving slightly slower than light in Earth's atmosphere.

I do not agree to all of the feats below. The ones I do use, I'll have listed on my scaling blog.

Goku travels to the Moon with the Nyoibou[]

The Nyoibou starts extending at frame 1008, and Goku comes back at frame 1507. This gives us a timeframe of 499 frames or 19.96 seconds for a round trip.

The average distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,400 km, with Akira Toriyama also thinking it should be at least 380,000 km. For a round trip, this gives us 768,800,000 meters.

768,800,000 / 19.96 = 38,517,034.068136272545090180360721 m/s or 0.12847899618654273768c (Relativistic)

Jackie Chun's Kamehameha reaches the Moon[]

I already calculated this feat in this blog, but to recap:

Roshi's Kamehameha begins to fire at frame 1788, and it reaches the Moon at frame 2107, which is shown by it exploding. This gives us 319 frames or 12.76 seconds.

384,400,000 / 12.76 = 30,125,391.84952978 m/s or 0.100487c (Relativistic)

Goku dodges the Battle Jacket's lasers[]

The feat is already calculated on the blog linked in the title, and comes out to 0.1514c (Relativistic).

Goku dodges Piccolo's Bakuretsu Makoho (Manga/Highball)[]

Prerequisites[]

Piccolo Daimao is 250 cm tall.
Goku at this point is 135 cm tall.

Piccolo = 927 px = 250 cm
Piccolo's arm = 347.7 px = 96.467 cm
Piccolo's head and neck = 148 px = 39.9137 cm

Distance between Goku and Piccolo[]

Piccolo = 220.4 px = 2.5 m
Panel height = 898 px

Distance from point of view to object = object size * panel height in pixels/[object height in pixels*2*tan(70deg/2)]

2.5 * 898/[220.4*2*tan(70deg/2)] = 7.27357594178 meters (Distance from PoV to Piccolo)

Now Piccolo dives forward and extends his hand, so for that we'll need to get the height of him with his hand extended. To do that, we need to subract his head and neck's height from his full height and then add his arm's length onto it.

(2.5 - 0.399137) + .96467 = 3.065533 m
7.27357594178 - 3.065533 = 4.20804294178 m

Distance jumped by Goku[]

Goku = 100.6 px = 1.35 m
Distance jumped = 706 px = 9.474 m

4.20804294178 / 299,702,458 = 1.40407355e-8 seconds
9.474 / 1.40407355e-8 = 674,750,977.2547172 m/s or 2.25c (FTL)

Goku dodges Piccolo's Bakuretsu Makoho (Anime/Lowball)[]

This calc uses the anime, and is the safest and most conservative estimate for the feat.

Goku = 339.3 px = 1.35 m
Goku's leg off-screen = 76.1 px = 0.3 m
Distance moved by beam (light green) = 335.3 px = 1.334 m
Distance moved by beam (dark green) = 613 px = 2.44 m

2.44 - 1.334 = 1.106 m (distance moved by the beam from the top right to the bottom frame)

1.106 / 299,702,458 = 3.7e-9 seconds

0.3 / 3.7e-9 = 81,081,081.0811 m/s or 0.27c (Relativistic)

Goku dodges Piccolo's Bakuretsu Makoho (Anime/Midball)[]

This calc is mostly the same as the previous one, except I'll be using the distance Goku jumps in the previous two frames as an estimate for the distance he jumped. The full 4 frame sequence is in the Imgur gallery in the title of this section.

Goku = 339.3 px = 1.35 m
Distance Jumped = 259.9 px = 1.034 m

We already established the timeframe before as 3.7e-9 seconds.

1.034 / 3.7e-9 = 279,459,459.459 m/s or 0.932c (Relativistic+)

Goku blocks Bakuretsu Makoho (Manga)[]

Panel 1[]

Piccolo's arm = 178 px = 0.96467 m
Beam width (closer) = 29.2 px = 0.158249 m
Beam width (farther) = 11 px = 0.158249 m
Blast = 83 px = 1.194 m
Goku full height = 43.9 px = 1.35 m
Goku straight vertical height = 57 px = 1.75 m

object size * panel height in pixels/[object height in pixels*2*tan(70deg/2)]

1.75 * 1112/[57*2*tan(70deg/2)] = 24.37 m Distance from PoV to Goku
1.194 * 1112/[83*2*tan(70deg/2)] = 11.423 m Distance from PoV to Blast

24.37 - 11.423 = 12.947 m Distance left for the beam to reach Goku.

12.947 / 299,702,458 = 4.31995122e-8 seconds (Relativistic reaction time)

Panel 2[]

Goku = 356.1 px = 1.35 m
Base diameter of distance Goku's arms moved = 107.9 px = 0.41 m

Radius = 0.205 m
.16968 * pi = 0.644 m

0.644 / 4.31995122e-8 = 14,907,575.74 m/s or 0.05c (Sub-Relativistic+)

Goku blocks Bakuretsu Makoho (Anime)[]

The anime shows that the beam still has quite a distance to travel while Goku already blocked.

Goku = 185.3 px = 1.35 m
Goku (Straight Vertical Height) = 235 px = 1.712 m
Panel height = 611 px

1.712 * 611/[235*2*tan(70deg/2)] = 3.178 m from PoV to Goku

Now I'll subtract this distance from the distance in the original manga calc.

12.947 - 3.178 = 9.769 m

9.769 / 299,702,458 = 3.26e-8 seconds (Relativistic reaction time)

0.644 / 3.26e-8 = 19,754,601 m/s or 0.066c (Sub-Relativistic+)

Goku dodges Piccolo Jr's Eye Rays (Low-Ball)[]

Goku at this point is 175 cm tall.

This feat is seemingly aim-dodged in the anime, however Goku and the Eye Rays also move at the same frame, so the feat should still be valid.

Goku = (113.5 + 125.2 + 123.4) = 362.1 px = 1.75 m
Distance Goku ducked = 109 px = 0.526788 m
Distance moved by the Eye Ray = 428.1 px = 2.068972 m

2.068972 / 299,702,458 = 6.90342019e-9 seconds

0.526788 / 6.90342019e-9 = 76,308,262.4991 m/s or 0.25453696c (Relativistic)

Goku dodges Piccolo Jr's Eye Rays (Mid-Ball)[]

In the above panels, it seems that the rays are already being fired before Goku ducks his head.

Piccolo by this point is 226 cm tall.

The average head:height ratio is between 1:6.5 and 1:8

2.26/8 = 0.285 m

Piccolo's head: 282.1 px = 0.285 m
Distance traveled by the Eye Ray: 254.8 px = 0.2574 m
Distance from ray to Goku: 110.9 px = 0.112 m
Distance Goku needs to duck to avoid the Eye Ray: 138 px = 0.1394 m

0.112 / 299,702,458 = 3.7370398e-10 seconds

0.1394 / 3.7370398e-10 = 373,022,519.054 m/s or 1.244c (FTL)
