~ Zatanna after being reunited with "John Smith" |
Summary[]
Zatanna Zatara grew up with her illusionist father, John Zatara, and eventually followed in his footsteps, becoming one of the world's premiere stage magicians. During her illusionist career, Batman (who was secretly "John Smith," a man she developed a crush on whilst he trained with her father many years ago) helped her when she was framed for grand theft. Some time after, Zatanna would develop real magical powers and join the Justice League during its expansion following the Thanagarian Invasion of Earth.
Powers and Stats[]
Tier: 10-A physically, at least 8-C with Magic
Name: Zatanna Zatara
Origin: The DC Animated Universe
Gender: Female
Age: Early - Late Thirties between B:TAS and JLU
Classification: Magic-using Human (or "Homo Magi"), Member of the Justice League
Powers and Abilities: Magic, which enables her to use:
- Explosion Manipulation (Caused a large explosion)
- Teleportation (Shown here and here)
- Telekinesis (Lifted and threw several things at Circe. Moved a chair toward herself. Made a window shut. Caused a cage to open)
- Creation (Created a cage)
- Transmutation (Turned Parademons into a flock of doves, then turned that flock of doves into energy. Turned a gun into a snake. Turned four men into frogs. Turned a rabbit into several different animals)
- Water Manipulation (Manipulated the water within a fire hydrant, using it to douse a fire)
- Fire Manipulation (Used her magic to light candles)
- Matter Manipulation (Fused the two halves of a truck back together)
- Size Manipulation (Shrank and enlarged a man)
- Portal Creation with her hat (Turned her hand into a portal and stuck her hand through it to grab something from a distance)
- Clairvoyance (with her Crystal Ball)
- Likely far more, considering she can "perform virtually any feat of real magic."
Attack Potency: Athlete Level physically (Knocked a grown man out in a single hit), at least Building Level with Magic (Created an energy burst that was implied to have blown up a large Apokoliptian ship. Split a large truck in two)
Speed: Subsonic or higher reactions and combat speed (Undid her spell faster than a shotgun blast)
Lifting Strength: Unknown, at least Average Human physically (Is never shown lifting anything, but is a physically fit adult woman, so should be at least this strong), at least Class 1 with Telekinesis (Lifted and threw a piano across a room)
Striking Strength: Athlete Class
Durability: Athlete Level (Has no durability feats, but has an athletic constitution)
Stamina: At least Average Human (Has no stamina feats, but her athletic constitution would imply she's at least this resilient)
Range: Standard Melee Range physically, Tens of Meters with Offensive Magic (Sent this energy burst at least ten meters. The effects of her spells, such as the spells she used in her fight against Circe, have stretched across large rooms) and Portal Creation (Used a portal to reach across a large theater)
Standard Equipment:
- Magic Wand: A wand that she can channel her magic through, though sometimes she doesn't appear to need it.
- Can Create/Summon:
- Metal Cage: Self-explanatory.
Intelligence: Above Average (Is a powerful sorcerer, and for years had worked as a prolific, un-debunked illusionist and performer. Knows how to do complex magical rituals and knows various magic spells she can use in combat)
Standard Tactics: During JLU's "This Little Piggy," she blindsides Circe by throwing a piano at her before Circe is aware of her presence, implying she prefers to strike first regardless of the "honorable" thing to do.
Weaknesses: At times, she seemingly needs to say her spells backward to do magic, though in some instances this does not apply for some unknown reason. As shown during JLU’s “The Balance,” a disruption of the balance between Olympus and Tartarus will cause her excruciating pain, to the point of incapacitation. Must be able to see the person she is affecting with her magic.
Note: Bruce Timm has stated that the original DCAU tie-in comics are not canon, with the only tie in comics that have statements to the contrary (other than Batman: The Adventures Continue, which has so many continuity issues that it's essentially impossible to argue it's canon) being Justice League Infinity, the Batman and Harley Quinn tie in comics, and specifically the first annual of Batman Adventures. Ergo, I only consider those three comics canon.
